I have to say head gaskets on a 3.0L VUE is very uncommon. Perhaps you could have the shop who is working on it explain it better and you could follow up because I have seen exactly 1 VUE 3.0L head gasket leak.
Labor to do the water pump and timing belt should be around 4 hours. Maybe a little more if the water pump leaked and made a mess they need to clean up.
need to know what engine you have? most likely you'll have to remove timing cover as the water pump is driven by the timing belt..while your at it i would HIGHLY recommend replacing the timing belt, timing belt idler pulley and the tensioner pulley..
support the right side of the motor. remove the right side engine mount (5-7 bolts) using a socket wrench or serpentine belt wrench take tention off the tensioner while keeping tension off the tensioner remove the belt. NOTE: take notice of how the belt is routed.
1. Your coolant level is low 2. Your thermostat doesn't close and needs to be replaced 3. The valve from the cooling system to the heater core is stuck 4. Your heater core is clogged
depend what engine you have for the 2.2L engine you need a 3/8 ratchett or use the belt removal tool fit it in the square slot on tensioner rotate counterclockwise. the 3.0 engine you have to use a box end wrench rotate to right.
gasket was checked, the say coolant is coming behind behind timing cover and belts,no coolant in engine.
