2004 trailblazer with a problem with the instrument cluster being intermittant. Sometimes its off for days, sometime only a few hours.

You will have to have the cluster repaired. If you are handy, you can take the cluster out yourself. There a number of vendors on Ebay who repair clusters.

Hello, I would look in the Owners Manual for the fuse that controls the gauges. These are usually combined with low demand items like a glovebox light. I am thinking a 5 AMP fuse. Since there are only a few low AMP fuses in the fusebox, you may be able to pull all 2 or 3 fuses and check them for a burn-out.

This Fixya site is suppose to have a Diagrams section, but sometimes entering what you want on a WEB search will get you your information. There are many pay-sites for this info, so you will have to weed them out to get the info free. Just enter something like 2003 Trailblazer fusebox photos or diagrams.

If you have confirmed that the fault is intermittent, make sure if it is coming on during jecks or movements of the car. If so there is a confirmed fault of the wiring harness making a bad connection with the instrument cluster. go under the dassh and start by moving you hand over all the connectors/ harness shaking for the dash board to react to power. slowly proceed to get to the fault area., If you ahve not been able to acieve this , then the instrument cluster unit has to be dismounted and checked for cracks or dry connections. There's 9 screws in the plastic piece that surrounds the instrument cluster and the lower knee guard, remove those screws and pull the plastic trim away from the dash, disconnect the switches on the left side as you pull outward. Then there's 4 screws that hold the actual instrument cluster in place, remove those and pull the cluster out, unplug the grey plug in the back of the instrument cluster and your done. You may need to set your parking brake and put your transmission in 1st gear of you have a column shifter model.

This is very common, in fact GM issued an extended warranty on the gage clusters from 2003-2005. Unfortunately the extended warranty has expired. The cluster either needs to be replaced or rebuilt. I know there are several companies that specialize in rebuilding them, but it takes 3-5 days and the vehicle is not drivable during that time and the repair is not cheap. I just checked and there is one on e-bay for $90 that may work for you. Its a common issue with trailblazers. You can sometimes temporarily fix it by disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minute or so and resetting it, but eventually you will probably need a new speedometer instrument panel cluster (can get pricey at a dealer)
