96 chevy k1500 over reving, when it starts. When in drive, (not moving) holding the brake for a few moments returns it to normal. Revese and holding the brake, dosent change the over reving when transmission is engaged into drive. If this is not done (holding the brake) it remains in a high idle, during the duration of the trip. Which in heavy traffic can be a pain. Another effect is when cruising at say about 50 mph, the engine runs about 1800 rpm. By releasing the accelerator the truck will cruise, then by putting my foot back on the gas pedal the transmission shifts to the next gear. I know that this last part sounds stupid (to me) but I know its not normal.

When you tow a vehicle -- a flat bed hauler -- is your best bet
Next would be -- to use a wheel lift to raise the rear wheels or
remove the drive shaft, so the trans does not have any internal
parts moving
Hard to say IF something was ruined or reverse was about to fail
When reverse goes on a rear drive GM trans, your pretty much going to be taking it apart & rebuilding it,as reverse is the first parts into the case & the last out on disassembly
air brakes? need to let air pressure reach maximum..then step on the brake pedal and push release in.. wait for air to escape.. release pedal.. if it wont move then spring brakes are frozen.. may need some alcohol added to air to unfreeze brakes if below zero outside..may need to do this a few times..also try to rock the vehicle with it in revese or drive..sometimes the pads rust to the drums..
i have a 90 chevy 2500 2wd 350ci.when i go to start my truck the key turns hard in the ignition, the check engine light and brake light come on the heater dont work, and the transmission will shift from 1-2 at real high rpm and shift hard,no 3-od.this comes and goes, but all happens at the same time.some times it last for 10 min, sometimes its days.what is going on?
It sounds like a problem with the brake booster, the air diaphragm that gives you power brakes. It is located right behind the brake master cylinder and mounted to the firewall. Check the large vacuum hose to it for leaks. If the air is coming out of the unit itself, it will need replacing. It will stop the engine because with a large air leak, the engine just sucks in way too much air. Hard brakes are also an indication that the booster is not working right. But check the hose first for leaking. Good luck.
Sounds like it could be a dirty or faulty idle air control valve.Take it off and clean it with a wire brush and a non-chlronated brake cleaner or replace it with a new one.Make sure you reset the computer after cleaning or replacing the valve.
YOUR TRUCK HAS KELSEY HAYES FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ANTI LOCK BRAKES EBC 310. YOU CAN BLEED BRAKES MANUAL STARTING AT - RR- LR RF- LF. THIS IS BLEEDING SEQUENCE.BUT YOU NEED A TECH 1 OR 2 SCANNER BECAUSE IF YOU REPLACED THE BPVM OR BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATOR VALVE.BECAUSE AIR TRAPPED IN VALVE ASSEMBLY.THE TECH 1 OR 2 SCANNER YOU HAVE PUT IN THE FUNCTIONAL TEST BLEED AIR OUT OF VALVE ASSEMBLY.THEN YOU CAN BLEED BRAKES MANUAL.
if the fittings aren't different sizes to help you out, it will be the fitting furthest from the frame, closest to the rad. or engine. all gm trucks are like this.
