For the L- Series Saturns you first take off the head or very top of the head gasket that displays the specs of the engine( 2.2L [in red], saying its a 16 valve, etc..) It will have 4 bolts on the head. After you unscrew those and take them out, gently pull up on the head. Taking it off slowly will pull the spark plug wires off of the spark plugs. Once done, set a side the head so it will not move and get a Ratchet and extension, and probably a 5/8ths deep socket, preferably a spark plug 5/8th deep socket( has a rubber boot inside to keep the spark plug held in place when changing) . You may then proceed to take out the spark plugs. Go one at a time when replacing(take out then put another in) if not, the engine may misfire and have some other problems as well. People say you. After it has been loosened, take ratchet off and while only usIng the extension, unscrew slowly and then pull out straight as possible. Same when putting it in. While the new spark plug is fit inside the Spark Plug Socket (5/8th), put in holy slowly and straightly until you fill the threads are aligned. Then tighten by hand only using extension. When it wont go anymore with only finger tightening, attach ratchet and turn about 1/4 of a turn. Over tightening is not good as well with under tightening. Some say a torque wrench is needed but that's nonsense. As long as you follow the 1/4- 1/2 turn rule you'll be fine.
