If it is a four wheel drive check your tail shaft or drive line by securing the vehicles front wheels jack up the rear tires and in park try to rotate the drive line if you can hear the transmission sound like it is going into gear the transfer case could be damaged! If not a four wheel drive pull the transmission dipstick and look to see if the fluid is dark red or metallic grayish color if so then you're clutch disks inside the tyranny have been worn out and it needs to be rebuilt!

2005 Yukon XL 1500 2wd 252,000 miles
It developed a noise like a can full of rocks slowly rolling
It only did it in neutral or park with engine running.
Putting in gear would stop it.
Turned out to be a loose filter element in the transmission.
At least that's what I was told by my mechanic.
Solved the noise though

Both the Clunking and RPM increase, indicates
your transmission is due for a rebuild

It is worn & also slipping

IF PRESSING REMOTE TRANSMITTER LOCK BUTTON ONCE TO LOCK ALL DOORS DONT WORK.THE REMOTE HAS TO BE REPROGRAMMED AT DEALERSHIP.CLUNK NOISE GOING IN GEAR COULD BE LOOSE FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS OR DAMAGED LOOSE ENGINE MOUNT OR TRANSMISSION MOUNT.CLUNK NOISE CAN COME FROM LOOSE DRIVE CHAIN ON TRANSMISSION DRIVE CHAIN SPROCKETS

CLUNK NOISE ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL IS WORN OUTBOARD CV JOINT.THE VECHICLE SLUGGISHNESS IS LOW TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL OR TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTER NEED CHANGING.

I believe the "gizmo" your referring to would be the pump. Ford power steering pumps will get noisy if they have been run dry at one time. Be sure the fluid level is full and you have no leaks. If no leaks and fluid is full, but noise persists then replacing the pump would be your next course. Some pumps are louder than others, so don't be surprised if the new pump may have a little whine as well.
Transmission clunk can be caused by loose mounts, drive line components (axles, cv joints) or internal transmission issue. Flushing the transmission will not cure a transmission clunk. I don't know of any additives that will cure a transmission clunk as well. Have the transmission check out before you invest money in additives and flushes. Hope this helps. Please leave feedback.
