There may be a connector disconnected (one of the in-between disconnects). Sounds like you induced the problem and I would retrace your steps and check all connectors. Did you remove the transmission when you removed the engine? It's possible you severed a wire moving the parts around. You could do an ohms check from end to end to see which wires aren't making contact to further isolate the problem
Have your charging system checked. It could be a bad battery not taking a charge, or it could be an alternator problem, not putting out sufficient power.
with engine running check the oil pressure gauge. if it is not reading you will have to check the pressure with an external gauge. the sensor on a v8 is locaterd rear of the engine next to the distributor. No oil pressure will starve the engine of lubrication and cause damage resulting in the knocking .
Check gauges light only comes on when one of the gauges is out of perameter. Check to see which of the gauges is not working properly and then check that system.
This could be a number of things. First thing is do you have a check engine light on? If you do, I would have the codes read. That will tell you exactly what is wrong. And it is free-cheap to have them read. If anything electrical or sensor wise is bad, the check engine light should be on. Otherwise it would be a vacuum problem or a clogged fuel filter, possibly a failing fuel pump will also cause this problem.
