My car has a really hard time starting in the morning once the cold weather starts. Once it has been started in the morning, it seems to start a little better the rest of the day. I often think it may not start. Would it help to install a block heater?

Motor starts then dies several times when cold

Sounds like the cold start solenoid. It is designed to keep the engine running at a set RPM until it reaches a specific engine temp.

I have a 1992 toyota 4wd 3l that has been starting really hard especially on cold mornings. i cleaned the cold start injector and changed the timmer but it still does it. can anyone help? thanks rick

Check your battery for proper volts (12.6). Sometimes the cold weather will bring a battery down. Also check the Starter Relay, again cold weather will make it stick causing it not to start. Those are the biggest problems with a car not starting in the cold weather unless you have something else going on then your starter and your ignition needs to be checked.

My car will not start in cold weather. i have change the plug wires and all the plugs. IT wasn't like this but now is getting worse expecially in the morning after the car has been sitting for over night....

I live in the snow belt and have had the same problem for two years. Car runs and starts fine in the summer but starts giving problems when it gets cold and damp. After having it diagnosed with no problems indicated, then having the plug wires, plugs, etc. replaced, I discovered that if I put the key in the ignition, turn it two clicks and leave it for several minutes it will start and run fine. When it's just cool and damp, it may only take 2 mins. but the colder the weather the longer it takes. At 9 degs. it took about 20 mins. Hope this helps. It's a very expensive and frustrating problem that no one seems to know anything about.

That is how the automobiles work. hard to start when cold.
Of course if this is not normal for you, maybe a new battery might help.

It cranks, but it does not run

Have you check the plugs, cables, cap/rotor ?

One thing you can try since it starts good in warm weather, is to ,on a cold morning, take a hair dryer and warm up the suspect part to warm weather condition. Then try and start the car. If it start ok you have probably found the weak part.
