dr 260 - I was told they were on the transmission. are you sure ?

  • iue84778 Oct 10, 2009

Having trans problems. Sometimes fine. Other times vehicle does not want to go over 45 MPh whithout making noises. Speedometer also erratic. I have had the speed sensors replaced three times in 5 years. Right now the problem seems intermitent, I suspect sensors again and do not want to pay to have them replaced

  • iue84778 Oct 10, 2009

Yes, at times the brakes ( ABS ) do engage suddenly. Do you think it is the sensors again ?

  • iue84778 Oct 10, 2009

Did The three key and get P0700 which I found indicates the Trans Control Module could be bad.

  • iue84778 Oct 10, 2009

And yes the engine light is on but no ABS light. had problems with the speed sensor and ABS last time and ABS light did not come on then. replaced speed sensors and then everything was normal for 2 Yrs

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE P0700 CODE. I BELEIVE IT IS GENERIC AND MAY NOT MEAN THE TCM IS BAD. DO YOU AGREE THAT ANY TRANS PROBLEM CAN THROW THIS CODE ?

Replaced the speed sensors both input & output and bam van is fine. P0700 code gone. Just as I suspected. This van is known for blowing speed sensors. The symptoms were the same as last time just different code. I guess the TCM picked up the problem with the trans and threw the p0700 code ( bad TCM ). Not the case running fine four days now code gone. Still throwing p0445 ( Emissions code ) any suggestions.

Both front wheel hub assembly would have those sensor they are also used for the abs. I am not sure on that year of caravans would have some on the rear wheel hub assembly also.

They are bolted in the hubs of each wheels when you take the wheels off you will see a wire follow that wire it will lead you down to the sensor.

Why are you looking for the sensors

  • dr260 Oct 10, 2009

Definately speed sensors aka ABS sensors are in the wheel hubs. Along with a 94 honda civic I also own a 1998 caravan also with a 3.3 litter engine I recently found out that those trany are known problematic I have just replaced mine because the planetary gears where broken. I tried to find a used one but was told to get mine rebuilt for that same reason.

Unless you are having problems with the ABS system ignore the sensors and they should not be that expensive not more than $70.00 to $90.00 in Canadian money LOL.

  • dr260 Oct 10, 2009

Any problem with the ABS system the abs light in the dash would light up and stay on.

Unless that light is on I would ignore the ABS aka wheel speed sensor.

If you know someone with a good scanner you can find out the problem with your transmission.

  • dr260 Oct 10, 2009

So now you have a check engine light on. This could be the reason you cannot go over 35 it could be a defective engine control module or maff, map sensor, it could even be a dirty air filter you need to get that engine scanned and see what the code is. You could buy a cheap OBDII scanner for the price a garage would charge to scan.

You have to start by knowing what code comes up. It is expensive to go at this blindly

  • dr260 Oct 10, 2009

I agree code P0700 doesnt mean there's an internal error in the TCM and that you should replace it. If you get code P0700 when you do a full system scan, it is coming from the PCM, and it flags in the PCM to tell you to check the TCM for transmission specific codes. That's all. It's only there because some of the cheap scan tools that they sell for $30 at local parts stores will only scan the PCM, so they put that code there to let people know there are more codes in the TCM

  • dr260 Oct 10, 2009

To bad you don't live close to Ottawa Ontario I would scan your van for you for free.

Only 44,000 miles is it for sale :-)

  • dr260 Oct 14, 2009

Sounds like an evap code large leak possibly gas cap rusted or not closing tight enought.

Is there a strong odor of gas around the car. If there is could be leak on top of gas tank.

Location of speed sensor on transmission 1997 gr caravan 3.3 engine

The input speed sensor is right below where the cooler lines are clamped the the transmission. The output speed sensor looks exactly the same as the input and is located to the right ( as you standing in front of the vehicle) of the input speed sensor.

Location of oxygen sensors on 2002 dodge grand caravan with 3.3 liter engine after considerable maintance work done by a dodge dealer my gas mileage dropped by as much as 6 to 8 miles per gal. after a time...

The o2 sensors are located on the exhaust system. The upstream in on the rear exhaust manifold and the down stream is in front of the catalytic converter.Usually when they are bad they will make the check engine like go on.Make sure the air filter is clean, tires at correct inflation, alignment is to specs. If the vehicles pulls to one side or the other or steering wheel is not straight when driving down a straight stretch of road. Also tires are wearing normal.Use cruise control where ever on highway. If you let your vehicle warm up in winter. This also uses gas.Hope this helps.Good luck.
