Intermittent fuel pump engagement when turning key - 2001 Taurus

Intermittent fuel pump engagement when turning key to start position (2001 Ford Taurus - 3 litre). When fuel pump engages, engine starts right up. Obviously, no starting when it doesn't. Have replaced 20A fuse and multi-pronged large fuel relay fuse in the power distribution box under hood. Problem still persists. Does fuel pump need replaced?

Try cleaning the connector that goes to the fuel pump, sometimes they corrode on inside. If that does not fix, test the wires feeding fuel pump with a multi meter until the condition shows itself again, if voltage drops to zero or very low then wiring problem, if voltage is unchanged with problem and fuel pump is not working and connectors are all clean, try replacement of fuel pump.

Try and replace the oil sending unit,it has a cut off for the fuel pump. This could be leaking,or not,but replace it any way,it isn`t expensive, and it is part of the fuel system wire routing. If the fuse for the fuel pump is blowing, then the fuel pump is most likely bad.I hope this is some help,if so,please let us know, thank you.

2001 Ford Taurus replaced fuel pump and filter. Engine turns but no crank. Inertia switch was down.. Turn key and hear pump makes running sounds.... No crank. Popped switch out..turned key and no sounds...

Could be a bad switch. Use a ohm meter to check each switch position. Use fuel pressure gauge to test for correct pressure. Use noid light to check for injector pulse. Check for ingnition spark.

My 2001 ford taurus does not start, it acts like it is running out of gas.

Turn on key and have someone listen by back of car for fuel pump running it will only run for 5 or 10 sec with each turn of the key. Not running check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay. Take another relay out from another spot and swap them to see if it works

What fuse is the windshield wiper fuse in a 2001 ford taurus?

Check on Passenger Fuse Compartment the position 15 30AMP for Front Wiper Motor. Additionally, in the Fuse Box (underhood) check position 25 - Wiper Speed Relay and 29 - Wiper Park Relay (blank space) but could have some use.

Other details in the 2001 taurus owners manual.

Mom's 2001 Taurus SES has

Usually with heat issues, electrical components are affected. It may be fuel pump relay, found in the relay box under the hood. CHeck also if you have spark when this happens during start. If there is no spark your ignition system may be faulty. Inspect first the hi tension wire for loose connections. A bad distributor means no or intermittent signal will be detected by the computer from it and in turn it will not activate the fuel pump. It could be either one of the said issues or both may be the cause.

It acts like it is going to start, but it won't turn over. New fuel filter, no change... any ideas? 1999 Ford Taurus.

If you can hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key to the run position, then you turn key to start car...and the car will start and run for one or two seconds...then you may have a bad crank position sensor. Go to autozone.com, become a member and look up crank position sensor for your car. There will be a tutorial on testing and replacement.

2001 ford taurus TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

most likely due to a stripped out torque converter or a broken pump shaft. trans. has to come out to repair either or. you should make sure the fluid is full first. with the car running and warm, check fluid- if it seems over full, the pump shaft is broken, if it's just full- probably the torque conv., if its low add trans. fluid (mercon 5) 1 qt. at a time until in crosshatched area on the dipstick. hope this helps and good luck
