Low Fuel Pressure on 2003 Landrover Freelander Kalahari TD4. Renewed (In Tank Fuel Pump) no improvement. Unable to find auxilliary fuel pump and fuel filter
From 53 reg onwards, diesel pump is under R.H. rear wheel arch, hidden by the plastic wheel arch liner. Older versions have combined fuel pump/sender in the tank (under R.H part of rear seat).
You should be able to hear a faint purr from the pump when ignition is turned on but engine not yet running.
Causes .bad filter, gas line leak, tank leak call dealer to find aux pump.bad gas.i had a truck i replaced the in tank fuelpump 5 times one week they were all bad. could be as simple as your gas cap? any check engine lights on?
Check pressure from tank and work forward. You have an obstruction in the fuel line. Or pressure relief valve has gone.
Ill check the o - ring in the hp pump first. When you start vehicle does it idle and revs go up and down or does it switch off. If your v3hicle starts and running smooth the o ring would be my best bet. From there you check your filters. One way of checking LP pump inder rear wheel arch is to disconnect line and put key in on position. There should be gas coming out like a fully opened tap. All parts on ebay and shipping fast. I gave my vehicle full service for about 800 dollars that is all sensors, filters, new pump etc.
Fuel pumps work by pressurizing the fuel and sending it to the engine. A low fuel level can cause the engine to work much harder to build the necessary pressure to pump the fuel. To analyze the problem, start the car when the fuel is low (below one-fourth tank) and listen for the sound. If the whine is audible, fill the tank immediately. When you start the vehicle again, the whine should be reduced or absent. If not, there may be another problem.
Damaged Pump
The whining noise may be caused by a damaged fuel pump. The fuel pump may be punctured or dented, reducing its efficiency. To resolve this issue, the fuel tank must be accessed and repaired or removed. The location of the fuel tank depends on the construction of the vehicle. In a vehicle equipped with a carburetor, the fuel pump is often located outside of the fuel tank. With a vehicle that has a fuel injector, the fuel pump is located inside of the tank. It is best to get a mechanic to address this problem.
