My brake light indicator has recently began going on and off...do I just need to fill up the brake fluid level? I have an '03 Mitsubishi Galant. Also, I recently had my heater fixed and new tires put on...do you think something was done by mistake to have this indicator start coming on?

Hello, After you've replaced the trans filter and pan gasket, pour 3 Qts ATF into the fill tube and start the car. With your foot on the brake, move you gear selector from park to low and pack to park again. Leave the car running in park and check the trans fluid level. Normally after a service your transmission should take about 4 Qts, but it's easier to add more than take some out if you overfill it. Top it off to the bottom of the fill mark. As your transmission temp rises, your ATF will expand and your fluid level will rise. At that point it will be at the top of the fill line. Hope this helps, James Booth. PLEASE RATE THIS!!! :))
hi, this one is easy, fill to level turn steering from left to right, for about 5 times each and if working a noise will be heard. recheck level. reson for turning the steering wheel it forces air out of system. gerry
Often, the brake light on is an indication that the brake fluid is low. You need to locate the brake fluid reservoir in the engine compartment, and check that the brake fluid is up to the recommended level. You can easily top off the fluid, but if it is low this means there is a leak somewhere in the brake system, that needs to be located and repaired. If the brake fluid level is ok and the light is on, the brake system needs to be inspected. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
hi for info the brakes warning light on dash is also an indication that brake fluid level is low? or there may be a leak resulting in fluid level drop ? also considering age of car you may need to inspect brake pads wear ? if your car has low brake pads wear indicators attached to pads ? or the hand brake switch req's checking to ensure it is being pushed to off position when h/brak is down ? so fluid level low is the obviouse 1st check as fluid will displace from reservoir as pads wear low hence the level indicator on fill cap trips on may i suggest if it is low level b4 you top up? check your b/pads if you have not done so recently? or replaced since new ? hope this helps you locate problem best wishes from the uk
The parking brake and the low brake fluid use the same light. If it
comes on during acceleration, your brake fluid level is low and you
need to add some brake fluid or replace your pads. The brake fluid gets
low as the pads wear as the whole system is hydraulic. Another
possibility is a brake fluid leak. As you accelerate, the fluid gets
pushed back causing the low brake fluid light to turn on.
