The check engine light is on, the ABS, and the traction control light are on. I went and had it put on the diagnostic machine at autozone, the following codes came up P1700 and U2108(twice) autozone could not tell what they were said dealer codes. Does anyone know what these codes are and what to do? At autozone I had the codes reset but the check engine light would come back on.

    Two Questions:

    1. What is causing the car to shut off after it runs for about 15 minutes it seems as if it shuts off once it warms up. I then wait and it starts back up about thirty minutes later.

    2. My low coolant light is on but the the tank is full, what is wrong?

  • Anonymous Oct 04, 2009

It dies after a while sitting in drive way. How can I check the things you said? I just took it to autozone and none of that is coming up on scanner. Where to start first?

  • Anonymous Oct 04, 2009

Thank-you , for being so helpful but where are the following located?

    1. choke controls

    2. engine idle sensor

    3. switch that controls starting

Isn't there a way I can check fuel pressure to make sure filter is not blocked, isn't there a valve?

note: when I first start the car it runs rough and takes some time to smooth out and then it runs smoothly and cuts off

The P1700 is just a request for the check engine light, and this is caused by the U2108. The U2108 is basically telling you that the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) is not communicating with the powertrain control module, or the transmission control module.
The very first thing we must do is verify that the fuses that power the ebtcm are not blown and that they are powered. At this point I would like you to verify that the fuse labeled ABS in the fuse block is not blown and that it is powered with the key in the on position.
I would also like you to verify that the fuse labeled V1 inthe power distribution box is not burnt and that this is powered also. After this we need to move to the ebtcm to verify that you have voltage at pins 15,17,18 and that you have a ground at 19 and 16.

This would verify that the ebtcm is getting the proper voltage supplies to operate. The end result of this may possibly be a faulty ebtcm, but at this point we really need to check these items prior.Feel free to contact me with any questions at this point! Thanks!

    Answer for question No:1

IT is not common but could be the filter inside the gas tank at the pick up tube. The injector rail could have some type of blockage in it that is causing the problem. not likely but could be. Throttle body sticking.

The choke controls, at not functioning as it should. Engine idle sensor could be bad/weak. It may be responding to the hear of the engine. suggestion. run the vehicle at an idle to see if it occurs without the transmission being gear.

The is a switch that controls starting, that could be effected by heat. It may be a good idea to have the computer system check to see if any engine fault codes are being recorded.

I have analysed all the problems which may cause your car to die after driving for a while and again start after a while.

Here are what the codes mean.

P1700....Malfunction Indicator Lamp requested by trans control module

This code (U2108) is a communications error with the ABS module. This goes hand-in-hand with the TC and ABS lights and code P0500. The VSS is wired to the ABS first, then carries over to the ECU and speedometer. I found this out the hard way with a buddy's Catera. When the ABS module has communications errors, the speedometer loses signal from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

Good luck

The "Check engine" "ABS" and "Stabilty traction control" lights are fed by the same "type" of computer chips that store information at any given time caused by a speedbump, a flat tire, etc. etc. The diagnostics at Autozone will read the codes but it does not dismiss them, this has to be done by an authorized dealer. If you are not experincing any changes to the operation of the engine, traction, or the brakes, than you only have to get these codes removed from their respective system computers. Thank you, Dana

PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTIONBefore diagnosing ABS/TCS, perform a comprehensive visual inspection of system as follows.Check ABS/TCS wiring harness connectors for looseness. Check harness routing; pay particular attention to wheel speed sensor wiring harness routing. Check fuses No. 1D, 5B and 6B in instrument panel fuse block. Check fuses No. 1 and 2 in underhood fuse block. Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir. Check brake fluid level in Pressure Modulator Valve (PMV) assembly reservoir. Ensure parking brake is fully released. Ensure parking brake switch is functioning properly. Always perform ABS/TCS system functional check before using DIAGNOSTIC CODE CHARTSThe EBCM/EBTCM has self-diagnostic capability, which can detect system failures. Fault codes stored by EBCM/EBTCM can be displayed using Tech 1 scan tester. There are no provisions for flash code diagnostics.Begin ABS/TCS diagnosis with PRE-DIAGNOSTIC INSPECTION procedure. If failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, perform necessary repairs, and proceed with ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. See Fig. 5 .If no failures are found during pre-diagnostic inspection, go to ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK. See Fig. 5 . The ABS/TCS FUNCTIONAL CHECK will either indicate ABS/TCS is functioning properly or direct technician to various diagnostic procedures such as diagnostic charts, symptom diagnosis or BRAKE warning light diagnosis.CHART D - TRACTION OFF WARNING LIGHT ON CONTINUOUSLY & NO DTC SET (BUICK WITH UH8 OR U2A INSTRUMENT CLUSTER)Circuit DescriptionWhen ignition switch is first turned to RUN position, EBTCM goes through a self-test, which lasts 2-4 seconds. During self-test, EBTCM commands TRACTION OFF indicator warning light on. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) can also command EBTCM to set a Code 75 which will illuminate TRACTION OFF indicator.Traction control switch is located either on instrument panel center trim plate or driver's front door trim panel. Switch allows driver to select traction control mode (on/off). When traction control system is turned off, TRACTION OFF warning light comes on.EBTCM monitors transaxle temperature through

Engine light and traction control light on 2006 chevy hhr

Traction control usually uses part of your ABS brake system to function. Sometimes a dirty (or worn out) wheel sensor is the problem that triggers both "check engine" and "traction control"...This can be verified with the proper diagnostic meter, and many shops will perform this test for free...unfortunately the free check at the auto parts stores does not include reading the ABS/Traction sensors...sensor cost is about $65. sometimes they can be cleaned. Hope this helps.

Lights keep comeing on dash abs traction control off &engine soon light.

Check the wires for continuity from the sensor connector to the module. Resistance should be an ohm or less. If the engine light is on, do you get a trouble code from OBDII?

ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT STAYS ON

ABS = Anti-lock Brake System.
TC = Traction Control System (Engine Control Module).
If the ABS lights on the dashboard permanently the ABS system is faulty. You must access the ABS & TC Electronic Control Units (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ABS ECU, in other words reset the ABS system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.

I suspect bad brake pedal switch, but you should scan the ABS & TC ECU's.

My 2002 Lincoln LS v6 Lost Engine Power,Traction Control Light was flashing & ABS light Came on! ANY IDEA?

Had the same problem with my 2002 Lincoln LS, it was a bad wheel speed sensor. The right front wheel bearing had some play in it, so I had the hub assembly replaced. The hub assembly comes with a new wheel speed sensor attached. After I replaced the hub assmbly with sensor, the ABS and Traction Control lights went off. No problem since!

Abs and traction light are on

you can try to reset the computer with a diagnostic machine but, it seems like the brakes were installed without resetting the abs sensors. if this sensor is not re connected, this will cause your light to come on.
