Ford F250 SD, 2wd. Replacing front bearing

Ford F250 super duty, 2wd. Replacing left front wheel bearing. I have the grease cap, pin, nut and washer off the spindle. The rotor will not come off, even with a rubber mallet. Do I need a wheel puller or am I missing something?

Leave nut etc... off and place wheel on spindle, screw lug nuts on about half way and shake tire in and out untill spindle comes loose make sure u have vehicle supported securely never trust a jack!!

If you have front disk brakes you have to remove the brake caliper to get the rotor off.

I have a 2003 Ford f250 heavy duty 5.4l.On the rear axle,left side, the hub has got about 1mm play.How can i tighter the bearing up ? Could you send me an exploded view of the hub and axle ?

Wheel bearings are designed for longevity. Their life expectancy, based on metal fatigue, can usually be calculated if general operating conditions are known. Bearing failures not caused by normal material fatigue are called permanent failures. The causes can range from improper lubrication or incorrect mounting, to poor condition of the shaft housing or bearing surfaces.

Inspect the bearings for these improper wear conditions, and for:

A. pitting.
B. rust.
C. corrosion.
D. Excessive clearance(play)

If you find any of the above stated damage. The bearings should be replaced not adjusted. To service the wheel bearings, you'll need to repack the bearings and replace the grease seal.

How to fit front wheel bearings Which brand to use for quality

If the car is front wheel drive a puller is required to dismantle the hub a rather involved job better left to a mechanic .If rear wheel drive do the following. ( Applies to front wheel drive also.) Chock rear wheels,loosen front wheel nuts, jack up car, fit safety stands,remove wheel , remove grease cap from axle. remove split pin or locking nut on axle ,Remove hub, with a punch drive out the grease seal ,the tapered cone bearings can now be removed, the 2 bearing cups still in the housing will have to be pressed out ,all old grease has to be cleaned out. the new cones must be repacked with high temp bearing grease . tap in the seal with the lip facing inwards , slide on the hub fit the outer cone to the axle , the spacer and nut goes on next, tighten the nut to seat the bearings , spin the hub make sure its free to spin, back off the nut one eighth of a turn fit a new split pin or lock tab. fit grease cap and road wheel.

Replacing front wheel bearings on 97 dodge 3500 2wd

If its to wheel drive than it will have a inner and outer bearing. 1. Remove the caliper 2. Remove the dust cap from the center of he rotor 3. Remove the cotter pin from the spindle 4. Remove the castellated nut 5. Remove the nut and washwer 6. Remove the outer bearing 7. Remove the rotor from the spindle 8. Remove the grease seal from the back of the rotor 9. Remove the inner bearing Clean the grease out of the rotor. Use a punch to remove the inner and outer races from the hub. Install the new races into the rotor with a seal/race driver. Pack the new bearings. Install inner bearing into rotor. Install new grease seal. Wipe old grease off of the spindle and apply a thin coat of new great. Install rotor ono spindle. Install outer bearing, washer, and nut. Tighten nut snug then back off nut a half of turn and then tighten agin just barely snug. Install castellated nut and cotter pin.   1. Remove the lock ring seated in the groove of the front disc brake hub and rotor (1102).

  1. Remove the hub body assembly from the front disc brake hub and rotor. If the body is difficult to remove, install two capscrews and pull the body assembly out of the front disc brake hub and rotor.

Installation
  1. NOTE: Do not pack the hublock body assembly or cap with grease. Excessive grease can cause excessive dialing effort and hub failure.

    Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
  1. Tighten three Torx® head capscrews to 4-6 Nm (35-53 lb-in).

What is needed to remedy right hand front wheel bearing play on a 1990 d21 4X4 ute

replace the bearing or wheel hub assembly.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 2wd Models NOTE: Refer to wheel bearing service and bearing preload adjustment procedures found in Section 1.
  1. Raise the front of the truck and support it with safety stands. Remove the wheels.
  2. Remove the brake caliper and suspend it with wire, out of the way. Remove the caliper torque plate if equipped.
  3. Remove the dust cap and then remove the cotter pin, lock washer (if equipped) nut lock and nut.
  4. Pull the hub/disc assembly off the spindle with the outer bearing. Don't let the bearing fall out.
  5. Pry the inner oil seal out and remove the inner bearing. To install:
  6. Clean and inspect the bearings and outer races.
  7. Using a brass drift and a hammer, drive out the bearing outer race. Press a new one into position.
  8. Pack the bearings with grease until it oozes out the other side. Coat the inside of the hub and cap with grease.
  9. Position the inner bearing into the hub, coat the oil seal with grease and press it into the hub.
  10. Press the hub assembly onto the spindle and install the outer bearing and thrust washer.
  11. Install the hub nut. Turn the hub a few times to seat the bearings and then loosen the nut until there is 0mm axial play. Using a spring tension gauge, check that the preload (with new grease seal installed) is 2.2–6.4 lbs. (9.8–28.4N)
  12. Install the lock-nut, new cotter pin and hub grease cap.
  13. Install the brake torque plate. Install the brake caliper.
  14. Install the wheels and lower the truck.
4wd Models The hub and bearing service procedures for a 4wd models are basically the same as those for a 2wd version, with the exception of removing the free running hub assembly and the bearing preload adjustment. Refer to Sections 1 and 7 for additional information. Adjust the preload after the wheel bearing is replaced or the front axle assembly is reassembled. BEARING PRELOAD ADJUSTMENT
  1. Thoroughly clean all parts and pack the wheel bearings.
  2. Apply grease to threaded portions of the spindle, grease seal lip and wheel hub.
  3. Tighten the wheel bearing lock-nut with a socket and torque wrench to 58–72 ft. lbs. (78–98 Nm).
  4. Rotate the hub in both directions a few times to seat the bearings. Loosen wheel bearing lock-nut.
  5. Retighten the lock-nut to 0.4–1.1 ft. lbs. (0.5–1.5 Nm).
  6. Turn wheel hub several times in both directions.

  8. Measure wheel bearing axial end-play. The wheel bearing end-play specification is 0.
  9. Install lock washer by tightening the lock-nut within 15–30 degrees.
  10. Turn wheel hub several times in both directions. Wheel bearing should be seated correctly.
  11. If necessary, measure wheel bearing preload. NOTE: Measure wheel bearing preload with a spring-type gauge; measure at wheel hub bolt, with tire removed. The hub assembly should rotate with 1.6–4.7 lbs. (0.73–2.13 kg) of pressure.

How do I put the front right rotor back on the spindle after a wheel bering replacement? I can't get it on far enough to get the spindle nut on. 2003 F250 2WD

Make sure you remove all the rust from the spindle and rotor. Make sure the bearing races are all flush. Use a rubber mallet,not a hammer
to properly seat the rotor. Good luck.

How tight should the nut be on the front wheel bearings for a 2006 f250 two wheel drive.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Support the front end.
  4. Remove the wheel cover, if equipped.
  5. Remove the grease cap.
    NOTE Check the wheel bearings for sufficient grease.
  6. Remove the cotter pin and retaining washer. Back off the spindle nut. Discard the cotter pin.
  7. Adjust the wheel bearings as follows:
    1. Tighten the spindle nut to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm) while rotating the brake disc clockwise to seat the wheel bearings.
    2. Back off the nut 2 full turns.
    3. While rotating the disc counterclockwise, tighten the nut to 17-24 ft. lbs. (23-34 Nm).
    4. Back off the spindle nut about 1 / 2 turn.
    5. Tighten the spindle nut to 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm).

  8. Install the retaining washer so the castellations are aligned with the cotter pin hole. Install a new cotter pin.
  9. Check the wheel and tire assembly for proper rotation, then install the grease cap. If the wheel still does not rotate properly, inspect and clean or replace the wheel bearings and cups.
  10. Install the wheel cover, if equipped.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.

To check the wheel bearing adjustment, raise the front of the vehicle. Grasp the tire at the sides, and alternately push inward and pull outward on the tire. If any looseness is felt, adjust the front wheel bearings as follows.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the hub cap from the hub.
  3. Remove the cotter pin and the castellated nut.
  4. While rotating the wheel, tighten the adjusting nut to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) to seat the bearings.
  5. Back off the adjusting nut until loose (120-180 degrees).
  6. While rotating the wheel, tighten the adjusting nut to 18 inch lbs. (2Nm). Torque required to rotate the hub should be 18 inch lbs. (2 Nm).
  7. Install the castellated nut and insert a new cotter pin.
  8. Install the hub cap

Packing front wheel bearings

what I do is put a glob of grease in the palm of my hand and push bearing down in to grease untill you see the grease come out of the bearing or you can go to your local parts store and get a bearing grease packer. also wipe spindal with a genorus glob and put grease in between bearing in rotor. To get to the bearings all you need to do is remove tire, center cap (outter grease seal) the silver cap in the center. the cotter pin, Nut, washer outter bearing then the rotor will slip off inner bearing is in rotor still being held in by inner grease seal take seal off replace with new one pack your bearings and reverse removal procedure when retightening nut do not make tight just snug the go another turn if you go to tight you will burn your bearings real fast.
