Changed battery oldsmobile 2001 silhouette security light came on and how do you reset the system

Hi Jodi, My name is Randy and I'm going to try and help you with your problem. Your anti-theft system is what's called PassKey this is the reset procedure.....Before you attempt this you must have a fully charged battery. 1.) Turn Ignition key to On position and attempt to start the engine, If it doesn't start release the ignition key to the On position. 2.) Security light will illuminate, Wait 10-12 minutes until it turns off. 3.) Turn the Ignition key off for 10 seconds. 4.) does your security light flash or stay on then the theft system is preventing it from starting if security light is u have leave the key on acc for 10 minutes n try starting then

That is your alram system. The computer has sensed something and turned the alram. Be careful because they can lock up the car where it can't be started. You will need to reset the system. You should call the dealership and tell them you need the security code for your vehicle. I am not sure about unplugging the battery. I don't know if that will work or not. check the abs sensors common to hit or damage the wiring or knock connection loose when doing a brake job the traction control system[tcs] is tied into the abs system

does the temp gauge or light come on? is the car over heating? .... oh and a starter can test fine when its cold, but the heat soak from the engine and exhaust affect it's performance drastically. it sounds like you need a new starter.

TAKE YOUR BATTER POST OFF FOR 5 MIN AND PUT IT BACK ON

A diagnostic scanner that reads OBD1 (the system by which your vehicle processes trouble codes) will be required, many parts stores do this a s a free service. Check with them to see if they charge. Remember though, when they read the car and turn the light off that in order for the light to stay off, the problem must be fixed. Even if it was a one time fluke of a problem, get the code that their scanner gives them so that you know what the issue is.

Good news. After letting the van sit for a few hours, when I went to get in it again, I opened the van with the key (ie. not the remote fob) and there was no beeping. I don't know if checking all the fuses (I fulled and checked each one), or disconnecting the battery, using the key, or just letting it sit did the trick, but it is now fixed.
