Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.

A rebuilt motor should be around $50 depending on the store and where you live.

check fuel pump relay and fuse may be your gas pump is bad, if you know how to use a multimeter check for continuity at gas pump conection, hope this will help you.

No, the fuel regulator from a 96 will not fit a 98. The 98 is a vortec and i believe the 96 is TBI. You are on the right track though, but the fuel regulator is attached to the fuel injector spider and is one unit inside the upper intake. It is relative easy to replace just takes some time.

get a can of 2+2 carb cleaner have someone turn over the engine while you spray a little cleaner into the throttlebody,if it starts your problem is the fuel pump.

check the catalytic converter i had the same problem with my suburban and mine was a clogged converter.

i think it will but if you go on craigslist.com you can get a 1996 4.3 witth low miles for like $400
