195-200 highway cruise, 224 max sitting still .

The thermostat opens at 196F, but sitting idling, the coolant fans may not turn on til' 125F.

coolant or water from the ac box in the car
pressure test the cooling system, check for split hoses

I have a 95 Cadillac sts northstar v8. When I start it up it accelerates on its own. It gives itself gas without ne pressing the peddle. Check engine lights goes on and off. Could you help me out?

this could be a few different things it could be something with your electronic choke or it could be a vacuum problem most likely a vacum problem

What causes my temp gauge to fluctuate on the high side

The Northstar engines were notorious for head gasket problems. You likely put a band aid on it when surgery is required. I'd recommend that you have the cooling system flushed & pressure tested as a start.

The coolant temp sensor is screwed into the rear head on the driver side down below the EGR valve, see this diagram

Hello,
The cooling system is designed to opperate at 220 to 225 deg farenheight. it sounds like it is doing fine. The fan will come on at about 220.

I have put a thermostat in a V8 Northstar Cadillac engine 2000model STS. When i put it in it did not fully bottom. I had to compress it about 1/8th inch and hold it there until i could slide the thermostat...

yes, its just another little quirk of the northstar
