Clean throttlbody and idleair area..buya haynes manual at the partstore
Check ODB codes.
Could be a few things.
fuel filter , throttle position sensor, even a maf sensor could do that,
cherokees are known for bad ignition switches
try looking into the ignition under the key, you need 2 do is take it out look and see if corrosion or burn mark on copper connections or contacts it should take a T20 to take apart.

you need to check wiring between lf door and body..peel back rubber boot and pull on wires..you will find 1 or more broken wires..can be repaired

If your engine light is on, please get a free scan at your local parts chain and send us the trouble codes. Recommend you start by removing the idle air control valve and cleaning the valve and passages as well as the throttle body with carb cleaner. Check the operation of the valve by hooking up the connector and turning on the key (do not start the car) while it is off the engine to see if it actuates. Please let me know if you have questions.
