If you changed to a used or junkyard pcm id suspect that may be bad. jeep had many issues with a few years. 94 thru 200 actually... with bad solder joints in the pcm where they connected to the harness...3 plugs if i remember correctly. just for grins wiggle the pcm connections while someone cranks it over for you... i had one with this issue...a 98 was the best and last year of that zj style

SOURCE: 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Won't start

The crankshaft position sensor was seriously problematic in those old jeeps. It's located towards the top of the bell housing slightly to the driver's side I think.

SOURCE: no 8 volt supply from pcm

You likely already checked this but how about a broken timing belt. If the cams aren't turning the cam sensor isn't working and the pcm won't fire the plugs.

releys are grounded every where try checking the motor and the body grounds

if all else fails run a new ground 1 to the frame and 1 to the body as likely it has a bad body ground

1997 jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4wd. All the gauges dropped and now won't start. I've replaced the computer but still nothing

wont crank or cranks fast but will not start,????????
wow first thing replaced the most expensive part on car.? why ?
replace PCM. ! wow ! what if used PCM (is it used) is bad,?
if so now 2 problems, Compounding every thing,.....$$$$$$$$

last time it ran was 1 week ago , 1 year, what? miles on it?
bad fuel in tank , old?
why not elaborate that key symptom first.?
there is a cluster there.
gauges, warning lights. many, all must glow.
lets do this dance, posted 100 times;. now.
  1. head lights work not dim? key in pocket.
  2. key on, not cranked ! (covered in missing oper. guide)
  3. all warning lights glow, if not battery is weak or fuses blown.
  4. and the CEL lamp there, it must glow or the PCM has no power ,that too, is a blown PCM fuse. fact. (or lamp dead)
  5. lets say the lamp was dead,CEL the scan tools hows status of the lamp and all else, so use a $10 scan too now. does it communicate with the PCM and show all sensors and not DTC errors? scan it now, cant fix cars now , with no scan tool , buy one, and win on old cars. big time with pay back !!! heck all cars. 96+
  6. so the CEL glows now, good, now you crank, now, does the crank shaft turn fast cranking, yes/no. yes !
  7. then check for spark , got spark x 6?
  8. got spark well test fuel works now , even with dry gas tank.
  9. is the ASD relay closing and then dropping,? ( yes, and yes)
  10. then that means the PCM cut fuel , on purpose !!!!
  11. the scan tool tells you why. it did drop for sure. scan it.

1993 to now , MR. ASD 101

http://www.fixkick.com/Jeeps/ASD.html

PCM is the engine EFI brain, it runs all spark and all fuel all the time. it also dumps the ASD to stop engine fires, by law.
confuses many, and all cars have this, one way or the other,
all EFI cars.

What could be wrong with my 2001 Jeep grand cherokee 4.0? It cranks and cranks but won't start. Gauges don't move and key light on dash has line through it. Changed CPS and cleaned battery terminals a

Is it out of gas? Try spraying starting fluid into the throttle body and see if it starts then. If so, you have a fuel delivery problem. If not, you have an electrical problem (no spark).

I changed the distributer in my 1994 jeep grand Cherokee and Shiite will not fire

cranks ok but will not start,
so no spark, right> (and actual test not guessing)
all spark plugs, dead each fails for spark, or just 1 or 2????
using a fresh test spark plug, case grounded?
behold i see dead spark at all cylinders example.
1: check all fuse first (always)
2: key on, CEL must glow, if not fix that first.
3: i insert the diagnostic jumper and key on and the CEL flashes codes.
4: I crank engine for 5 seconds,
5: i release key not off
6: i look at my CEL, it flashes and tell is if CMP or CKP are dead
via there own unique codes.
i bet now , you are on track.

Yes I have a 1994 grand Cherokee Jeep limited edition check engine light does not come on security light comes on but will crank need help getting engine light to come on

not true, at all. kevin... (your answer is wits end ways)
guessing is bad.
The CEL LAMP MUST COME ONE KEYON.
The lamp is the PCM self test and glows key on.
if not , the fuse to the PCM is blown, 10cents, not $1000 new PCM.
wow.
I repair PCM for living, from 1970. to now. L-Jetronics to present.

here is a better list
Battery at 12.6v rested. lamps glowing dont mean squat.
the battery below 10v , the PCM will fail.
the electronics spec is 10 to 16vdc. that is the rules.
then fuses good. (ask how to test them with an Ohmeter.)ask.

1: new car to you? PO prev.owner removed lamp to up sales price.
we call this the Classic, CEL (MIL dead cause)
removed it or painted the bulb black or black electrician tap, tricky applied. or the CEL holder is missing, (jokers all)

2: the scan tool works 10x better, use one (no comms? fuse blown, good comms. does the MIL show active or not? if active and the lamp is out the lamp is burned out or the PO removed it, the scan tool will not lie to you ,like old funky dash lamps. and PO's from H3LL.)

3; the 94 is OBD1 PCM. (ECU) and can be key on 3 times checked)
to activate the cause of failure, DTCs.
ever do that? every read that? its a fact.

here are some more facts.
the Immoblize will alow car to start for 2 seconds then kills spark and fuel. so if it glows, at key on, and stays glowing , its a waste of time
trying to start car. its IMMOBILIZED>
if the IMMO light is happy and will not crank here is the
ASD reasons.

http://www.fixkick.com/Jeeps/ASD.html

this tool can scan old jeeps 93-95 and up.
http://www.amazon.com/INNOVA-3120-Diagnostic-Reader-Vehicles/dp/B000KID2ZC/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1395411804&sr=1-1&keywords=INNOVA+3120

its only code reader but does do MIL status.
and readiness. and all DTCs.

to get the 3 key on test to work the CEL must be good.
that is why i use scan tools , so i dont need to waste time
with the lamp.
can take 1hr or more to replace lamp if bad or missing
btw, once access to lamp is attained, you can steal a unused lamp
for the CEL and fix it fast.

trick 2, on jeeps
put finger in ASD relay , and turn key on , then crank
can you feel it close, then drop out in 2 seconds.
?????????????
does this help?, tell more, ask more. get more.

1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L 6L Auto Trans. Turns over but wont start No spark on plugs, good compression. Just put new ignition coil, rotor cap plugs plug wires. but, checked power supply to coil...

Check for a signal at the ignition coil with a node light or a 12 volt led test light while cranking. Check for a signal at a fuel injector connector jack while cranking. If both these signals are missing. Ignition and fuel signals, then the problem may be some common point. My 've will loose both these signals if there is no crank shaft signal or position sensor. CPS is on rear of engine, on transmission bell housing. Check for connections of PCS.

1998 Jeep Cherokee -- car won't start. Turns over

have scanned to find problem code to get an idea of what it is. .it may either be the crank or cam sensor, check the crank sensor first. if it is bad it sends wrong timing info to pcm. therefore jeep will not start!! It is either the camshaft or crankshaft positioner. I would check the crank pos. first. Zach Cabot, AR

After i start my 95 jeep grand cherokee limited

crank or camshaft sensor will cause this, a bad crank sensor will cause it not to start or start hard. it controls timing and sends info to pcm for proper fuel mixture and spark at the right time.
