SOURCE: head bolts torque settings

According to my haynes manual for G-S reg, 1989-1998 it goes as follows,
Stage 1:- Tighten all bolts by hand until bolt heads just contact cyl. head.
Stage 2:-Tighten all bolts to 40Nm or 30lb ft.
Stage 3:-Angle tighten all bolts a further 60 degrees.
Stage 4:-Angle tighten all bolts again a further 60 degrees.
Stage 5:- M12 x 140mm bolts ONLY angle tighten a further 20 degrees.
Hope this helps everyone, sorry it seems longwinded but that is how it's written in the manual.

SOURCE: Head bolt torque specs needed for 96 tbird 3.8

Head bolts are torque to yeild so you MUST use new bolts.
Tighten cylinder head retaining bolts in numerical sequence in three steps as follows:

  1. 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  1. 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  1. 50 Nm (37 lb-ft)
Loosen retaining bolts one at a time two to three revolutions and retighten as follows:

Long bolts:
  • Tighten to 40-50 Nm (30-37 lb-ft).
  • Rotate an additional 175-185 degrees.
  • Go to next bolt in sequence.
Short Bolts:
  • Tighten to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb-ft).
  • Rotate an additional 175-185 degrees.
  • Go to next bolt in sequence.
Here is a pic of the sequence

Replace front door Pontiac vibe

THIS IS A TWO PERSON JOB!!
Open the door wide for access. Get a look at each hinge and see if the bolt heads are accessible. If not it will involve stripping door trims and possibly front fenders.
If you can get to the hinge bolt heads, first remove the door check strap across the centre line of the door. This will allow you to swing the door a bit wider making access easier. Wind the window down a short distance as a handle. Then,
SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF THE DOOR!
Slacken the LOWER hinge bolts leaving them in loosely to act as a brake if the door drops.
Start to remove the bolts in the upper hinge. Get your helper to support the door as it starts to swing loose. Take out the loose upper and lower bolts and remove the door.
To refit the new door, get your helper to hold it in position while you install the top bolt in BOTH hinges. Then install the lower bolt in each hinge. Tighten all bolts to the correct torque.
Lastly, refit the door check strap and close the door to check it lines up.

Can you drain torque converter when changing transmission fluid on a 2004 pontiac vibe

Basicly just remove the bolts in the transmission oil pan, make sure you have a drain pan under it and leave a couple bolts in, loosen the remining bolts and let the oil drain then loosen and remove them slowly as oil will be draining out while you are doing it.

Change the filter and after cleaning the pan install a new gasket and put it back on. Do not tighten the bolts too tight because it will distort the gasket and it will leak.

Pour about 5 quarts of transmission fluid in the trannsmission and start it up, look for leaks, and finish filling it to the cold line on the dip stick. If there are no leaks run until its warmed up and make sure the fluid level is at the full hot line on the stick.

There is really no way to drain the converter.

How do you loosen the tension on pully for serpentine belt on pontiac vibe

Back from pulley itself about 4 or 5 inches, and just ahead where bracket pivots, you should see head of a bolt on bracket where you put wrench (box-end usually good, but be careful what you use, and watch for wrench slipping if not on bolt head properly) and pull so it turns, clockwise, toward other pulleys, which should loosen tension.

I'm trying to find out what the torque is on the cylinder heads for a 3.4 pontiac grand am 99

1st u must use all new head bolts, that said follow this factory procedure from the manual.
HEAD BOLT TORQUE FOOT POUNDS (FINAL TORQUE) TORQUE SEQUENCE --------- | 6 2 3 7 | | 5 1 4 8 | --------- STEP 1: TORQUE IN SEQUENCE TO 33 FT/LBS STEP 2: TURN AN ADDITIONAL 90 DEGREES RECHECK FINAL TORQUE IN SEQUENCE *** CAUTION *** ENGINE USES TORQUE TO YIELD HEAD BOLTS (TTY) THAT PERMANENTLY STRETCH DURING THE INITIAL INSTALLATION. NEW HEAD BOLTS MUST BE USED WHEN CYLINDER HEAD IS REPLACED OR RE-INSTALLED TO OBTAIN PROPER TORQUE. ALWAYS COAT BOLT THREADS WITH THE PROPER SEALANT
