SOURCE: How do you replace the headlight bulb on a Toyota Corolla 2003
You can and it is not difficult, there are two bolts holding the top of the headlight to the body just over the radiator and a couple of screws holding the indicato in place, but you can access the back of the light fitting without doing so . It is a bit of a squeeze on the battery side.
SOURCE: How to replace the entire left side headlight assembly?
to replace : start by raising the hood, un screwing the turn signal and popping it out, next remove the front bumper, this makes everything so much easier, then locate and remove all the nuts and bolts attaching the headlight assembly. fairly simple, just time consuming, good luck and i hope this helps

Chances are you figured this one out by now, but just in case, here goes. To replace the drivers side light, first start the car and turn the wheel all the way to the right so you can access inside the wheel well. Next, use a plastic putty knife (or something that won't scratch the paint) and pry the black wheel well guard out of the **** that holds it into the fender. Your doing this so you can get your arm behind the headlight from the wheel well. Next, open the hood and remove the phillips head push screw that secures the drivers front turn signal to the headlight. Now comes the tricky part.. If you look at your new headlight, theres a female bayonette style receiver on the left side. This is where the turn signal locks in to the headlight. If you pry back the wheel well guard and look at the back of your headlight (use a flashlight) you will see the same bayonette push fit connector. You will need to use a flat head screwdriver to pry it open a bit on the headlight in the car (not the new one). Next you will reach into the fender well and push the turn signal assy forward. It takes some pressure for it to move but when it does it moves quick. I recommend using some gloves so you don't trash a finger like I did. Once the turn signal comes out you'll have easy access to the remaining screw holding your headlight in place. Once you replace the light, just put the turn signal back and push it in so it locks into the bayonette mount (don't forget to put in the philips push screw). Repeat for the passenger side. NOTE: I marked the garage door with tape so I could align the new headlights to the same spot as the old lights. the new ones were close, but still needed to be tweaked. Good luck! Dan.
