Why do think the key security is bad? If you still have a factory key, this is not the problem...if no factory key, you can take your VIN number or original key to GM dealer to get new key that they will program for you...Check for dirty battery connections:)
Yes, all 2002 Impala models have the PASSlock system. The key has a chip that a sensor in the lock cylinder reads and sends a signal to the module to allow the engine to crank. You can have a key cut without the chip to open the doors but not crank the engine.
