What do you need to know? Do you need a list of tools needed and torque specs? Please provide a detailed list. This repair is easy if you have the right tools. The original ball joint is riveted to the lower control arm. You will need a jack, jack stand, 3/8" & 1/2" (torque wrench, long handle ratchet or breaker bar), metric wrenches, 3/8" & 1/2" metric sockets, pliers, press or drill, drill bits, hammer and punch set (to remove the rivets). Here is a good How To video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywh_q3BEJK4
For safety reasons please I highly recommend torquing all the fasteners. Winging it could result in a fastener loosening up or breaking from being over tightened. Please take a look and let me know if there is anything else.

SOURCE: repair lower ball joints

The front lower ball joints are pressed into the steering knuckle. Once the brake components are removed, the CV shaft nut and tie rod ends can be removed. Remove the front strut bolts, and the lower ball joint nut. Separate the lower arm from the ball joint. Once the knuckle assembly is off the car remove the lower joint snap ring and dust boot. Utilizing a ball joint press (should be able to rent from local parts store) press the joint out of the knuckle. Re-installation is naturally reverse of removal. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: ball joints repair on a 1997 chevy blazer

If they are the original ball joints you will have to remove the rivets on them. The new ones should come with replacement nut and bolts. You will have to remove the brakes, and move the steering knuckle out of the way (You don't have to remove the tie rod end). It isn't difficult, just time consuming. You can do it in the driveway on stands. Make sure you have a couple hours, and a case of beer.

SOURCE: replace lower ball joints

if you have some mechanical knowledge, it is not really difficult.  It is just time consuming.  Pick up a Haynes manual and they will give you a step by step with pics in doing this.

SOURCE: How do you change upper and lower ball joints on 2001 Ford Expedition?

i am not going to lie to you on this. if you do not have a very good mechanical back ground you should not attemp this procedure your self because it could result in serious injury. it should be brought to a shop because they do have the right tools to do this. alot of the time ball joints are pressed in under extream amounts of pressure

Lower ball joint wear spec 2005 Silverado 2wd

There are several different wear specs regarding lower ball joints. The official manufacturer torque spec. for lower ball joint wear (For your truck) is 5 in lbs. The official wear spec. to pass the Federal State inspection is less than 1/16" of play at the ball joint (up and down and side to side). The official wear spec. for a front end alignment is zero play.

My buick makes a clunking noise while turning

Consistent clunking would be CV axles. Popping once in a while would be lower ball joints.

How many hours to r&r a transmission in a 2004 buick lesabre

I changed one a month ago at home. Took me about 13 hours but I did not have a lift. I had some other work to do in that time so the actual time could be as little as maybe 11 hours. Have to drop sub frame and support engine with support tool placed across strut towers. Support front of car high on jack stands. Blocked rear wheels.

Disconnect battery. Remove air intake hose and filter box, starter, electrical connections to tranny, linkage, remove brake calipers, separate lower ball joints and the axles. I made a wood plate affixed to a floor pipe flange and short pipe inserted into a floor jack to lower and raise the tranny. (Balancing it was much easier that way.)

Difficult to reach tranny bolt accessible only from pass side wheel well across back of engine! Look for it!

Flush out old tranny fluid from radiator so as not to contaminate new tranny.

Do Buick lesabre 1993 have rear ball joints, and if soo, how do you tell if it is bad, and how would you go about replacing it.. Thank you

YES. jack the car up and shake the wheel side to side. if the ball joint is bad the wheel will feel loose. to replace , you remove the tire, brakes, and unbolt the strut. then you separate the ball joint from the spindle, then press the old joint out of the control arm and then press the new one in . reassembly in reverse procedure and then have the car aligned.

Rasie vehicle, remove tire, axle nut and caliper. remove tie rod end from spindle, remove lower ball joint nut and seperate from spindle and pull spindle from axle, with pry bar pop axle out of trans housing. it is easyer to replace cvc axle than to replace or repair cvc joint.
