Would be that the spark plug is defective, shorted electrode to ground if spark is jumping from ground to engine gap.

SOURCE: I can't get spark plug wires off of spark plug.

first off the vibes come with iridium spark plugs so there is no reason you should be taking them out unless you have more that 200,000 miles on it. and they also dont have a spark plug wire its a coil pack with a rubber shaft that reaches the top of the plug. and dont take them out unless your replacing them because they will more that likley break.

SOURCE: chevrolet trailblazer 2006 engine spark plugs

Platinum (or more precisely-AC Delo Iridium) spark plugs. The six spark plugs are directly under each of the six coils on top of the camshaft cover. The air intake needs to be removed, then each of the 10mm bolts for the individual coils. The coils can then be removed and the spark plugs accessed.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Rio turns over but won't start.

These are coil packs, the most likely problem will be the crank sensor,or the cam sensor, these are what trigger the pulse for spark, and injector pulse.

How do I replace the valve cover gasket on a 2002 Saturn L200, 2.2 engine?

Disconnect the camshaft cover grounding strap.Right side of engine.
Remove ignition module, 4 bolts , and disconnect the electrical connection to it. Pull straight up to remove.
Remove 4 spark plugs.
Remove the coolant pipe bracket.
Remove the fuel line bracket.
Remove the 12 bolts holding down the cover, then pry up around the edges GENTLY to remove. You might want to use a rubber mallet at this stage, just don't overdo hitting it, its cast aluminum..
The gasket around the edge and around the spark plug holes don't need sealant, the new design does away with this.
Now would be a good time to check the wear on the Teflon timing chain shield between the camshaft sprockets.
Installation is in reverse order.
Camshaft cover bolts : Tighten to 89 INCH pounds.
Camshaft Ground Strap Bolt : 89 INCH pounds.
Spark Plugs : 15 FOOT pounds.
Ignition coil to camshaft cover bolts : 71 INCH pounds.
Coolant pipe AND Fuel line bracket bolts: 89 INCH pounds.
Good luck.

Need to check for spark in my car for fire in my sparkplug on my 1988\89 bmw 525i

remove a plug , the one with the longest ht lead would be best , once removed plug the ht lead back on to plug and rest plug against the engine block , DO NOT hold onto the plug during this next stage , get someone to turn the engine over whilst you look at the spark plug to see if there is a spark

98 honda accord cranks but no start

You may have spark, but how strong is the spark? The spark should jump about an inch. Pull a plug wire, install a spark plug on the end of it and hold the plug about an inch away from a ground, (use insulated pliers to hole the wire during this operation) Spark should jump about an inch. if it doesn't, you may have a bad igniter unit inside the distributor.
The second item to check is the main relay located up under the dash on the driver side. it's very common in Honda's.

How to test coil

I am assuming you have the 1.6 engine. You would check for power and a ground signal. You can disconnect the coil and put power to the positive terminal and then ground the negative to make it spark.

How do you check if you spark plug is firing

Take out the spark plug, place wire back on plug. Hold wire/plug by wire's boot, so firing end of plug is close to (1/4" away from) a ground like the engine block, exhaust manifold, etc.

Have some one turn the key so engine turns over.

If you have good spark you will have a bright blue spark from plug to exhaust manifold. you better use well insulated pliars to hold plug or a piece of wood to hold it to a ground to see if it sparks. good-day !

Our 2002 vw gti 4 cylinder doesnt want to start. there is oil around the spark plug cylinder and the car turns over. We changed the crankshaft sensor a week ago due to it dying out, the problem actually...

Take the distributor cap off, crank the engine, see if the rotor turns.
Put it back together.
Remove the center ignition wire from the distributor cap, put the end of the wire within a quarter inch from metal ground, crank the engine, look for a spark.
The engine needs compassion, fuel, and spark to run. Check one thing at a time

My 1999 olds 88 is running very ruff and sometime cut off this problem started last night , i haven't done anything so for to the car to fix the problem

Could be several things. The first thing I would check is the spart ignition. One way to check to see if you are getting proper spart is to take one spark plug wire off, insert a philips screw driver in the spark plug wire end and hold it about a quarter inch from any metal part of the engine. Have someone turn the engine over and watch for a spark from the screwdriver to the engine. Don't touch the metal part of the screw driver, the spark will pop you pretty good. There shoud be a big sharp spark, if not you may have a bad coil in the ignitions system.

Can I detect a spark signal from the distributor without removing the spark plug (like using a stroboscope light)by using a multimeter?

Yes you can, you will have to check the signal from the low tension side, the 12 volt to the oil side and also the High tension side that goes to the spark plugs. You can use a strobe clipped to each HT wire to give in the indication. Also you can use the multimeter but be careful to use the range properly.Helpful? good day

I did a tune up but now 94 plymouth acclaim will turn over but will not start

Check to ensure that all ignition wires are properly seated...especially the coil wire at the distributor. make sure there are no disconnected ground wires at the source of your sparkplug wires. and... check to see if the spark plugs may have a different top that may not be compatible with the plug wire ends.
Use an insulated screwdriver hold handle and plug it into a plug wire. Rest the screwdriver shaft a quarter inch from some bright metal on the engine and have someone crank the engine. You should have a spark off the gap between driver and grounded part. If not, begin looking at ground wire from battery and engine to frame ground link usually a braided metal cable.
