If it dies immediately after you release ignition switch from start position, the switch may be wore out.
There are actually many reasons your Omni starts then dies. I would look at the service history to maybe shed some light on some possibilities. Has it been less than two years since the last complete tune-up? Is the engine oil low, contaminated or smells like gas? Have you carefully looked around the engine compartment for broken or shorted wires? Have you noticed dry rotted or broken vacuum lines? Is there a strong smell of gas in the air after you have tried repeatedly to start the engine? Have you recently performed a compression test? Do you own a fuel pressure tester? A worn out or weak fuel pump could cause your symptoms. Please write back, let me know what you have done and noticed. Your the eyes and ears so the more information you can express the better. Hope this information helps. Good luck.
Mr Larry it ran good and parked for 2 days. Now start and dies. Looked over all fuses, wires, plug wires, the injector is sprays gas. After you keep trying it finally runs but looses power and startes running again as i am going.
Would you give more details about "Looses Power and Starts Running Again"? Do you mean to say, while you are driving. The engine Shuts Down or there is a deterioration of Power and Performance but comes out of it or starts running again? Sorry to be so Fastidious. The details really helpful. If we are on the same page I would recommend taking a look at the fuel system first. Like I said earlier, there are many reasons these symptoms could appear. Two days ago it was fine and now its not. Frustrating but its a machine and this not unusual. I do need to ask you to perform different tests as needed. This car could have low fuel pressure, restricted exhaust, low compression or a timing belt issue. Start by testing the easy things first and move on to the next one. This will save time and help narrow down your search. If the fuel filter is old please change it first. If the symptoms are still there then perform a fuel pressure test. You may need a new fuel pump. I am a master mechanic and always push to perform diagnostics. It may seem to slow things down but the only alternative to fire off the parts cannon. Thank you very much for writing back. Hope this helps. Please write back soon and good luck.

SOURCE: 1990 Dodge Omni. Runs but shuts down
Check to see that you have good(bright orange) spark to the spark plugs the next time it dies... if not odds are its the coil. If spark is good check fuel pressure, since the pump was replaced if pressure is bad the fuel pressure regulator would be in question.
SOURCE: wont start 88 dodge dakota getting fire and fuel
pls be more specific its crank or no its maybe you motor so if you can specify
SOURCE: 88 dodge shadow idles very ruff. pedal to floor to start.
i have an 88 dodge shadow turbo with a five speed. the car will fall on its face at 5500rpm coming out of first gear. and its rpm range gets lover with each gear. the fuel pressure rises when it fall on its face. the car never dies just falls then picks back up and will fall again unless you keep it under the that rpm. then it is fine. what could be the problem?
Check cylinder compression. If low, then a worn engine is likely the issue.
