This is a full day job with about 25 steps. Nobody is going to sit here and type it all out for you. This is where you really need a shop manual with diagrams and torque specs. Check with your public library to see if they have one for free online. Don't do this job without a manual and diagrams.

SOURCE: How do replace heater core in 2002 Pontiac Gran Prix

i do believe you have to take the passengers side dash apart behind the glove compartment. go to autozone and get a manual or go to the library and check the chiltons manual. this is not an easy job. how bad is the leak? if its not bad these heater cores are made of all aluminum. i would buy a bottle of that radiator additive and see if that takes care of the problem first. it only cost about 5 bucks a bottle and it may permanantly fix your problem.

Removal of heater core 2006 Pontiac grand prix how to remove the heater core

This is a huge job and you'll need the full repair procedure along with digrams. Call you local library to see if they have free online access to alldata or Mitchel on demand. If so, print out the procedure. If they don't, buy a short subscription to those online manuals alldatadiy.com or eautorepair.net. No one is going to sit here and scan in 15 pages of step by step for you.

How to replace heater core in 2006 Pontiac G6? I am at the last steps. Cant seem to get the heater core out?Am I taking the ac out with the heater core?

The heater core is part of the car's engine cooling system and is not part of the AC. They share only the fan used to move the cool or heated air provided by the AC or heater.

Need to replace heater core

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.
