i would check the fuel pressure first if it is in the good ranges then your pump is good. have you checked your spark plugs and wires? if not i would, if bad replace. otherwise i would have the ignition coils checked to find out if they are working correctly. that is all i can think of. good luck

SOURCE: 2000 PONTIAC FIREBIRD FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT

If the area under the carpet doesn't have an access panel, you can use a dremel moto tool with the small grinding wheel attachment to cut one out. I believe the cut goes inside the middle humps. (You can see humps running down the trunk area.) Do a web search for the exact location. After you do this you will have to put in a metal plate to cover it. What i do is i cut out 3 sides and not the 4th, then i bend it up and over, then bend it back.

SOURCE: Need to change a WATER PUMP on my DAIHATSU CHARADE GLXI 1994

The location of the pump is on the left hand side of the engine when standing at the front of the car.
You will see (if you have aircon) two belts.
If you stand to the side of the car to look at the belts.
From memory the inner one (closest to the engine) drives the aircon compressor.
The outer one drives the water pump, you will see the pump belt wheel towards the back of the engine.

Getting into the pump is a bit tricky.
I basically unbolted the engine mount from the body which then allowed me to jack up the engine as I needed it to give me space to unbolt everything until the 3 water pump bolts can be seen.
Just make sure you know which bolts go back where.
From memory there were about 20 bolts to undo before I got to the water pump.

Aircon compressor bracket bolt I only loosened them from the engine not fully removed, the same with the alternator I only removed the adjusting bolt to remove the belt.

Oh I just thought of something to do before you remove the tension on the belts... loosen slightly the 4 small bolts that are on the wheel that bolts onto the water pump.

I think the only size sockets and spanners I used were 10, 12, 14 & 17.

It took me around 2 hours to get it all undone, and close to the same to put it all back together with the new pump.

It was kinda straight forward as you can see what you need to unbolt because you know what bit you need to get into.

I hope this helps a little, I am not sure if it is clear in the way I have written it. But feel free to ask any questions.

Fuel pump replacement on a 1996 Buick Riviera, 3.8L 6cyl, how?

there is an access panel in the trunk. its towards the front right corner of the car under the carpet. there should be 6 or more 5-7 mm screws the hold down the cover. use a screwdriver to pry up on it. there is a metal ring that holds the pump in place. you will have take a hammer and a flat head screwdriver tap the ring off. remember lefty loosey righty tighty.

How do I access the fuel sending unit on my 85 riviera

In order to access the sending unit the fuel tank will need to come out.
  1. Remove the negative cable from the battery and have a Class B fire extinguisher near the work area.
  2. Use a hand operated pump when possible, to drain as much fuel through the filler tube as possible.
  3. If a hand-operated pump device cannot be used, or to complete the draining process, use a siphon at the main (not return) fuel pipe at the fuel pump or the fuel tank gauge sender unit.
  4. Undo the fill and vent hoses that are accessible support the fuel tank, undo the tank straps and carefully lower the tank undoing the wire harnesses and any remaining hoses as you do.
  5. Once out, remove the sender retainer ring using a brass punch (no sparks) by tapping it counterclockwise.
  6. Reverse procedure to reinstall.

My Buick Riviera is having trouble reversing. It is fine in all other gears but when I go to reverse it starts puttering and won't reverse unless I put the pedal to the floor.

IT sounds like the reverse band or pump is playing up and it could be due to dirty filter in the pan on G/Box
or the pump isent getting enough oil and the body valve isent working propley and as the reverse and forward pumps are both differant then.
Check oil in trans first and then if no change take to auto trand shop for a expert check over ..
Let me know how you get on . Ron

What's the easiest way to replace the fuel pump in 1995 buick riviera? Should I check the relays before assuming it's the actual fuel pump? How?

go into trunk and remove the trunk liner just behind the seats.....pull it towards the back of the car to remove.....look for a metal plate on the passenger side with several screws in it.....this is the access panel for the fuel pump....in the 95 riviera you do not have to drop the tank as the manual says......remove panel, disconnect ring that holds pump, disconnect lines and remove carefully......reverse to install....

How do i remove water pump on 1998 buick riviera .I have al the bolts detached minus the one wih the pully in front of it that butts up against the motor mount

u must jack up the car underneath the oil pan to support the engines weight. Then remove the motor mount. Then you can remove the last two bolts on the water pump. There are two holes in the bracket that is bolted to your engine block. These holes allow u access to the last two water pump bolts. If you loosen the upper bolt of the bracket itself u can swing it forward to get to the bolts on the water pump more easily. Do not completely remove the bracket! It's a tight space, but you'll extend the repair time if you remove the bracket versus swnging it forward.
