There is a thumb screw on the side that fastens the motor assembly. It also looks like at tab goes through the housing but after removing the screw I am unable to move the unit at all. The only other screws are what secures the whole assembly to the joists. How does this come apart?
Once you remove the screw, the motor subassembly, (the metal plate the motor is attached to) will slide down. They are often a tight friction fit. I had to use a screwdriver to wiggle the assy down, a bit on each side until I was able to get a grip and pull it out.
They are usually a one piece unit.
SOURCE: SOLUTION: HOW TO REPLACE REAR BULBS ON 2002 & 2004 BUICK LESABRE
Rear tail lamps for the 2002 La Sabre has eight nuts that hold the cover in place ( one piece-all acroos the back of the car). Do not remove the nuts for the lock, the cover sits in place and is not secured to the lock. Use a 10 mm deep well socket. remove the nuts and lift the cover to replace the burned out bulb(s). The bulbs are #194 or #198 (very small bulbs), not the 3057. It is easy to locate the burned out bulbs by putting the car in reverse and shutting off the engine and then put the ignition key in the accessory mode. The lights will light unless they are burned out. Simply pull them out and replace with the new ones and put the cover back in place and secure the nuts.

Yes, there is a spear point style clip that is holding the assembly. Wrap a flat blade screwdriver with some masking tape (prevents paint scratches) and pry between the forward outboard corner of the brake light housing and the car body. You want to pry the assembly rearward.

SOURCE: Remove headlight assembly from a 2001 Dodge Ram
On the upper grill side of the headlight assy. there
should be 1 or 2 push pins that hold the seal on the
headlight assy to the front of the fender. Also check
for a guide/push pin on the inner top of the assy on
the outer fender side. That should be all there is to
hold the headlight in place. Hope this helps.
