Was the right oil used? Happening before oil change? Have the computer scanned & ck for any codes. Poss reacting to cooling system. Cam & crank sensors etc.

GM doesn't use a fuel pump inertia switch (trips after a 3G collision) for the fuel pump, it is done through the oil pressure switch.

Did this happen immediately after the replacement, or did it work a while and then fail? If it happened immediately, I would look for an electrical connector that was missed. I am not extremely familiar with that model and engine, but many vehicles have the crank sensor installed in the transmission bell housing. If this was not replaced or connected, the car would do just what you describe.

Replacing spark plugs and ignition wires on 2001 Chevy Malibu 3 1 6

Need to check next time it quits,pull a wire and see if it has spark,
I suspect it is a ignition problem,not fuel.

A cavalier from 82-2002 is one of the easiest to replace clutches out of any FWD car. The entire job will not take more than 8 hours in and out. The transmisson should be out and laying on the ground in 3 hours tops.
