First place I'd look is around the perimeter of the heads (I assume you mean head gaskets?) Make sure you haven't inadvertently gotten a wire pinched in between the head & block somewhere.

How much could I expect to pay for a new 4.0L engine? I just got my 94 Jeep grand cherokee laredo for $200, so putting an engine in it will still be a great deal, I think.

that depends on what part of the country you live in. here in nys, a 4.0 will cost approx. at a junk yard ) low miles. about 3 to 4 hundred.

94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo: No power to left tail light

Traced the problem to the Lamp Outage Module located in the rear left quarter access panel behind the spare tire. Arcing had occurred on the left taillight line. Fortunately this part is readily available at your local Jeep recovery yard (none available in the U.S. from dealers). Recommend J& W Auto Wreckers in Antelope, CA (web site available). Massive number of Jeeps and fair prices. If you don't want to replace the LOM then you can join the two connectors that go into the LOM (LOM is optional) but you'll always show a lamp failure on your console.

Blowing engine control fuse on 94 grand cherokee

You might have a wire from the engine control circuit that has rubbed through on the engine block somewhere. Do a visual inspection of the engine wiring, and look closely for any damaged insulation. I have seen a problem like this before. Good Luck!
