I have a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche Black Diamond LTZ,my tail lights work sometimes & then randomly stop working, help!

The tail lights will stop working sometimes for weeks at a time and then randomly work again for days or weeks then stop working again. I can never trust driving my vehicle after dark because I never know when they will stop working. Brake lights, back up lights, blinkers and hazards all work as do my day runner lights on the front.

ALL lights work except tail lights. All day runners work except tail lights. If I manually turn lights to on position the tail lights still do not work. License plate lights work. Hazards, blinkers, reverse, all work. When key fob lock & unlock are pressed all lights light up.

Did you happen to find small pieces of plastic in the driver's floorboard? If so you unwittingly found the problem. The brake light switch is mounted so its plunger presses against a small plastic insert. The insert is pushed into a hole in the break pedal arm. When the brake is not depressed it rests the the upmost position so when the insert (when intact and unbroken) does the pushing up against the brake light switch plunger. Check the condition of the insert in the brake pedal arm and replace if necessary.

Tail lights, not brake lights.
If the vehicle has a tow bar fitted, it’s possible the trailer electrics have interfered with the wiring. Getting this removed or refitted may resolve it.
Also look at whether what you are seeing is the tail lights not working when the daylight running lights are on, but do work when you put headlights on. Try and check over every possible combination of running lights, side (parking) lights, dipped and main beam headlights, and what the state of the tail lights is for each.

Tail lights do not work regardless if the lights are set to automatic or turned to own position. All other lights work including license plate lights.

  • scj103 Oct 19, 2019

As each number plate light is on the same circuit as it’s beighbouring tail light then you have either got two intermittent bulb units, a wiring fault from the ?cu, or mis wired towing socket electrics cutout switch.

If locking and unlocking always powers them up, then the ecu is choosing not to illuminate. The programming and ecu state will need to be checked or investigated

SOURCE: 2001 dodge neon tail lights inop

looking at your schematics and , you say tail lights don't work , you didn't mention if front parking lights and license plate lights are working , they all come from the same source , a black /yellow wire , a good clue if front work and rear don't , please advise .if fronts work then you have a open circuit somewhere between junction S118 (near breakout for left headlamp) and rear sockets.

SOURCE: tail lights not coming on. wiring problem

Just to be sure, check out the bulbs and sockets.
Make sure the two dots sockets (look into the base) is using two dot bulbs.
====
Check the single brake switch that activate by the brake.
If you has a meter then please check out the contact points.
Sometime this switch move out of aligment.
Dirt can also be part of the problem.
===== I will apply 12V power to the brake switch socket and make sure the blubs light to rule out wire problem first.
Please post more infor on the comment window.

I have a 2009 avalanche ltz. The 3rd brake light is not working I took it out and the led's are all good when I comnnected a 9v battery to the leads. Rest of my lights work fine. What the heck?

Did you check the fuses? It could also be a bad connection somewhere in the cab.
If you have had anything like extra speakers, sound system or alarm installed, suspect everything the installers came near.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche LTZ and my drivers side window doesn't want to go up or down. All of the other windows operate good. It's just the drivers side that doesn't want to funct

I have an 07 avalanche that did that to to the rear window. It was the switch. Take drivers side switch plate off and use one of the good switches on the drivers door. If it works roll it all the way to top and get urself a new switch. iIf it does not work then its the window motor. Good luck.............

I have a 2007 avalanche ltz fog lights wont always come on. checked fuses and they are good, however i did pull out the big black fuse and put it back in and fog light began to work again. is it the fuse?...

If it had four or five prongs coming out of the bottom it is the relay. There should be a part number on it. If there is you can have any parts store cross that number. If not bring it in and they should be able to match it up.

I have a 07 Avalanche LTZ that will not unlock the back doors and tail gate when the unlock sensor on the driver or passenger door are pressed or if the unlock button is press on the keyless remote.

unfortunately it is probably the lock actuators on all three, this is a known problem on those, I have worked at a chevy dealer for along time and have seen this many times usually due to water intrusion in the connector at the lock actuator, have been lucky a few times and been able to clean the connectors..

Day light driving lights stopped working

Check your owner's manual for the fuse location for the daytime running lights. Chances are that's the problem.

Chevy Avalanche horn stopped working

you may have bad horn, take a test light and see if power is going to horn when horn is pushed, if theres power going to it then you have a bad horn,if theres no power to it then check the horn relay. but il bet if the fuse is good then the horns are bad.
