This is a huge job and you'll need the full repair procedure along with digrams. Call you local library to see if they have free online access to alldata or Mitchel on demand. If so, print out the procedure. If they don't, buy a short subscription to those online manuals alldatadiy.com or eautorepair.net. No one is going to sit here and scan in 15 pages of step by step for you.

SOURCE: where is the heater core located in 1997 pontiac grand prix

Core is dead center in front of the shift console. There is a bunch of plastic that needs to be removed to get to it, including (on most) the console.
Hardest part of job is getting to the heater hose ends on the firewall (difficult to get to from above or underneath unless it's on a lift, but not impossible) Haynes and Chilton have pretty good instructions for that job and you can use the manuals for other stuff as well...(about $20)
Job takes some time but is much easier than a Jeep!!!! (all day job)
Good luck

I have a 2006 pontiac grand prix 3.8l my heat only blow cold aair I checked the thermostat and the heart inlet hose is hot but the outlet hose is luke war what could this be maybe clogged heater core.

Ok fellow 2006 Grand Prix owners!! By trial and error, I went through the process of elimination because my car would over heat and had no heat inside. After changing the thermostat, I had to replace the water pump. However, after you do this, you need to open the inlet hose bleeder and let the air out a few times. This solved my issue of overheating and I now have great heat!!!

How to change heater core on 2007 grand prix

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

2006 pontiac grand prix, heat only gets warm not hot

Have you checked the coolant level? If that checks out ok... With the engine fully warmed up touch the heater core hoses where they go into the fire wall (about the center of the firewall). They both should be pretty hot to the touch. You'll likely find one hot and one warm. If this is the case flushing the heater core will likely get your heat blowing out hot again.

How do I replace the heater core in my 2001 pontiac grand prix

I had to replace the heater core in my wifes 1997 grandam. It is really not that hard. It took me just under three hours. Drain the coolant, jack up the car (use jack stands) Remove the two heater hoses at the fire wall, be sure and remove the rubber turn down drain adapter that is to the right of the heater hoses. Remove the left and right under dash panels, I can not remmeber how many screw ther are but there are a few, be sure and find and remove all of them. You should not have to pry very hard to remove the case. Hold the heater core in the upper case up in it's place and wiggle the lower case out. It is kind of a tight fit but not that hard to get out. Once the lower case is out remove the heater core by pulling it to the rear to clear the fire wall and remove the assembly. Replace in reverse order. Hope this helps.
