check oil to see if there is rad fluid in it. if there is you have a cracked head or head gasket. if no rad fluid in oil, check for a spark.pull out a spark plug attach spark plug wire hold close to engine block with gloves and turn over engine. it is best to have someone with mechanical know how to do this,i.e. friend or nieghbor
How much gas did you put in it? It is very possible that when you ran it out, that your fuel filter became clogged with the sediment from the bottom of the tank. Make sure there is atleast 5gal. of fuel in the tank. Turn the the ignition all the way forward and wait 3 seconds, but dont turn the engine over. Do this 5 or 6 times to get the fuel pump priming. Then try starting the car without pumping the gas pedal. If the car still wont start, check that the fuel system has pressure. Maybe something failed in the fuel pump when it went dry. You can have someone listen near or at the fuel tank to see if they can hear the fuel pump kicking on and off while someone turns the key on and off. Hope this helps.
If you ran out of gas you may need to bleed the injectors for air in the line. You can find the bleeder valve on the fuel Rail. It looks like a tire valve stem. Have someone start or ttry to start the motor over while you hold it down to see if any air is comeing out. Continue to hold untill all the air is out and nothing but fuel is flowing. By this time the engine should be running.
Sounds like fuel pump. Your fuel pump relies on fuel to act as coolant. Running it low often makes pump run hot and shortens it's life. Sounds like running out of fuel did just that. Way to test, pull fuel line off in engine compartment and have someone turn key to "ON" (NOT START!!!) position, you should fuel spraying out of line) If not, fuel pump is bad.
sometimes when you run out of gas your fuel pump is dry ,you need to put lots of gas in then turn your key to the on position with out turning over the engine ,you should be able to hear your fuel pump cycle if it still wont start ,pump the accelerator pedal a couple of times then try and start it
The fuel pressure should be 60 to 65psi in your system with the engine not running and fuel line primed, (ignition key's to the run position). Once engine is running the fuel pressure should drop by 5psi, change the fuel filter and recheck the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. it's known for the fuel pump to fail when the gas tank runs low or out of gas, the pump will end up burning it self out since the gas is what keeps the electric fuel pump cooled. The other thing to is putting gas through the top of the throttle body to start the engine on the SEFI is a NO NO, well a BIG NO NO. it's been know for the gas in the intake to catch fire and burn up the poppet valve in the injection system causing the replacement of the fuel injection system. Keep me posted and good luck, be gald to help you get your truck running again for the july 4th. OH and it was not mentioned but did the fuel filter get replaced???
