I am not familiar with this model but I believe that the light will reset once the abs fault has been repaired. This fault is usually caused by a failed abs sensor. I would usually replace the front ones first.

-If all tensions are good then turn on the car, let it run for 10-15 minutes and check the voltage at the battery. If it's below 13 volts
then the problem is the alternator.

Maybe. The warning light is for the ABS system, not the regular hydraulic brake system. Someone needs to scan the computer for trouble codes and turn the light off. Then drive the car and see if the light comes back on.
'Volkswagen Polo 1.9TDi 74KW, 2006 model sedan. Instrument cluster will reset, all lights come on sometimes with a loud beep sometimes with the horn also. It started first when I turn steering wheel to max either side then the airbag light will come on and I will loose power steering, then when switch off and restart all is fine but all counters are reset on the instrument cluster. Most recent incident when I was driving on highway and slacking off to take an exit then all the lights on dash was lit, lost power steering and loud beeping and I switched off engine and restarted (while freeing at high speed) then all OK again. lift up the rear seats (the bottoms, they lift up and slide forward) there should be 2 black connections there, check they are connected. Check your brake fluid level, if both are ok, (the following is just a guess) disconnect battery for about 30-45mins. this should reset the error (if there is one). failing that, VAG-COM it or take it and get it checked properly
Very common on these models is the fuse link in the top of the battery cover (40A) cracks. Costs a couple of pounds but indication on code reading is ABS pump failure.
