I have a 2005 chevy Equinox. I have missed placed my manual as we have had so many problem with this suv. I just notice a light on on the dashboard which shows a person with a seat belt on with a big ball in front of it. Can anybody tell me what this light means as it stays on all the time the car is running.
This is you Airbag Readiness light. On start up, it should come on briefly while the vehicle goes through it's check and then go off.
If the light stays on when you're driving, have the system checked immediately. There is a possibility that a malfunction could actually deploy the airbag. It's important to have it checked.
It's the restraint systen (airbag) light. Have someone read the error code (ex: B0101). In the 2005 equinox it is common to have the Front End Sensor fail.
It's 300$ if you fix yourself, 600-900$ for a mechanic to do it...
YOU HAVE A ELECTRICAL FAULT IN SEAT BELT.
It usually means that someone is not buckled-up in an occupied seat. The under sides of the seats have a pressure switch which tells the computer that the seat is occupied and the belt roller for that seat has another switch that informs the computer that that person (or package) is belted in. The problem is locating which seat switch is affected and whether the switch is bad or the upholstery/springs have collapsed causing the switch to activate. Each seat switch has a plug-in connection that can be pulled to eliminate that switch--progress through all unoccupied seats to find the fault. Good luck!

I believe that would be your "maintenance due" light. Most GM vehicles as of 2005 or so have a program built in to the vehicles computer that will let you know when it is time for your normal service to be performed. It measures this by how many times the vehicle is started, how long it is run for, etc. Sometimes it will come on after 3000 miles, sometimes 5000 miles and sometimes more. GM says that once the light comes on, they recommend you have an oil and filter change and any other necessary work done within 500 miles of the light illuminating. On average the light will come on about every 5000 miles but it can go to 8000 miles. I would suggest no matter what that the oil and filter be changed every 8000 miles at most with regular and not synthetic oil. You can always do the service sooner than that. Transaxles should be serviced at 30,000 miles or less on front and all wheel drive models on the Equinox. Please rate me on this answer.
