check your frame for the diagram or go to google images look up 1997 Chevy Cheyenne C2500 w/5.7L V8 serpentine belt diagram they will have it might not be the first pic
Depending on where you purchase the serpentine belt, and whether it's a budget or lifetime version, prices range from $18 to $33.
You can replace this belt yourself.
The belt goes around, and under various pulleys on your engine. There is ONE pulley that puts tension on this belt. There is a bracket, or 'arm', that this tensioner pulley is attached to. One simply takes a 1/2 inch breaker bar, and inserts it into a 1/2 inch square hole in that bracket. You then pull the bracket over to one side with the breaker bar, (The direction will be pulling the tensioner pulley away from the serpentine belt), and slip the serpentine belt off of the pulleys. The belt diagram of how the belt is placed around the pulleys, should be on the fan shroud support, or under the hood.
I would suspect a bad 'tensioner' pulley. When you get the new belt on, try to pull up on the uppermost part of the belt by hand - if it moves you should replace the tensioner (as this is what 'holds' your belt on). I can't seem to find a routing diagram so if it's not on a sticker under the hood or in your owner's manual try the local GM dealer...they have to have one. Good luck!.
the belt usually starts from the bottom pulley , follow the diagram and after the belt is around all the pulleys, the tensioner must be released to put the belt on, your best option is to get the repair manual
