I just dropped my sisters 2006 VW Jetta off for PArk Cities VW in Dallas to diagnose. I was told that the battery was going bad (only 40k miles) and that both the cooling fans & the module needed to be replaced or the car woiuld over heat. The total for this was a meger $1121.57 (that includes 2 1/5 hours of labor). Ok, unscrew a total of four bolts yank the old fans out and replace the new ones and screw the four bolts back in ??? 2.5 hours??? More like 30 minutes tops. Going to try do do a little recon myself before I pay that kind of money. Also to replace the battery was 227.50 (1 hour labor). Remove terminals, release mounting bracket and place Pep boys battery in ($89.99) and about 10 minutes. Savings of 137.00 just on the battery!
Check your fuses on top of you battery see if one or two of them are blown that is usually the reason your fans die. well partially the module does not go out that often.. For the fans its 6 bolts and 4 screws . not a bad job. It is easier if you can get the car up in the air to pull the fans out from the bottom. or you will need to pull the bumper and core support away a little to get them out. Good luck will be fun
