I have a 99 Durango 318 it acts like its not going to start. It turns over but sometimes it starts right up others it takes a few seconds. Once it starts it seems to run fine.
U may have a defective fuel pressure check valve in the electric fuel pump, u have the classic symptoms, to check this buy a fuel pressure test guage for your truck, about $40, the test port for fuel pressure is on the top of th engine in the fuel rail that supplies fuel to the injectors, hook up the guage to the test port and run the engine, make sure u have no fuel leaks at the hook up, then shut down the engine, the fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI, if it does the check valve is defective and you need a new fuel pump
For the 4th or 5th time now my 99 durango would not start.It always seems to be on a cold wet day and after sitting for a few days ,one of the times it actually shut off and wouldnt restart after exiting the carwash.Everytime it took about 20 minutes of cranking and pumping the gas to start. I can hear the fuel pump seem to be working.I performed a fuel pressure test and it stayed consistant.Am I looking in the wrong direction ? Also about 6 months ago some one poured trans/power steering fluid in my gas tank[psycho ex girlfriend]lol I did syphon out all/or most of the red colored gas from the tank .Anyways any info or help is much appreciated tks god bless
Are you one of those people who TOP OFF the tank when filling up?
When the EVAP recovery system soak with few ounce of gasoline......the trap vapor will take few days escape.
EVAP system is design to handle fuel vapor. Few ounce of gasoline
can damage the fuel vapor recovery relay and decrease the service live
of the recovery lines.
=========
You can accelerate the process by locating the charcoal canister (near
the nose of the car and same side as your gas filler door)
MOVE the car to outdoor.
Disconnect the EVAP line and let it air out by itself.
DO NOT introduce any heat source or fan to speed up the process.
Reconnect this EVAP hose and use a small amount of starting fluid at the intake manifold.
