Won't start after installing new fuel pump. After filling with gas drove about .5 mile home. Then after 1/2 hour started but stalled after 10 seconds. Tried again and only ran 3 seconds. No gas in the fuel rails. Pulled gas tank and fuel pump assembly. Using 12 volts battery charger, rand pump but would not pump gas up a 4 foot clear gas tube. Replaced pump and module and reinstalled gas tank. I stated the car and ran it for 5 minutes. Now car won?t start. Gas is in fuel rail. Will fire and run with ether sprayed in air intake. Any ideas?

    Yes, relay works correctly on bench, also swapped with another same number relay.

What makes 2001 Pontiac Montana stall and die while driving, speed doesn't matter?

Amazing.....At this very moment in time.....my 2000 silhouette is doing the same thing....if you were unaware.....ventures Montana's and silhouette are from the same mold. Very similar in all aspects. My diagnostics have got to the fuel pump part of suspects....but I have already checked filter, relays, fuses and ignition electronics....my latest suspect is the pressure sensor that monitors the pressure of the gas tank....there is also a pressure sensor on the injector rail I'm suspicious of. I'm going to find out how to place each sensor in "okay ....fuel pump turn on and pump fuel to the throttle body" to check them. In my case....I don't smell any gas after turning the engine over....trying to start it.....sometimes for over an hour....never any gas smell....so I suspect fuel delivery is the problem. The fuel pump has several sensors that control whether or not it needs to run....and pump gas. I can hear my fuel pump run for 2 or3 seconds when I turn the ignition to the on or start positions.testing all of those sensors is my plan of action for this 3 day weekend. Your on track with your work and suspicion of the position sensors......vacuum leaks will follow the sensor checks. Vacuum leaks could cause a couple of sensors to fail too.....I dropped my fuel tank last weekend....and found the fuel pump to be in working condition.....I removed my fuel filter and punched a hole through it for free flow.....to eliminate it from the list...after checking the vacuum angle....I will move to the electronics side.....with the ignition switch first and the transmission position indicator switch following.....I've plugged my trouble code reader in and didn't get any indication of any failed electronic devices......my problem and your problem seem to be very similar, except that I am doing all of my work on the van myself. I will try to keep you informed of my diagnostics through fix it.it would be nice to know how yours is advancing too.....there are a few directions you can progress into.....hope one solves your problem....if not.....there will be more ideas to come....until I solve my problem....good luck to. You never leave a car running, as it will
overheat the Exhaust Converter
When you run out of fuel, you sometimes
ruin the Fuel Pump
It depends on gas to lubricate it,as strange as it sounds
Check fuel pressure & volume at the motor with a gauge

You say he removed the fuel pump fuse? Do you mean he changed the fuse? The fuel pump can't work without the fuse. Perhaps the fuse is blowing and causing the engine to stall and not restart. Find the fuel pump relay and swap it with another relay of the same type. Make sure the fuel pump fuse is good. If the engine starts, drive it around close to home until you think it's had time to stall out again. If it down'nt stall this time then the relay is bad and needs to be replaced.

1997 s-10 sames to get vapor lock. after filling up with gas,drove truck home (4miles} left sitting in drive way (hot sun) tried to start 4:pm. 9:pm 9:am removed gas cap started up first time. Aprox....

Change your fuel filter, it may have gone it's life time and is getting to dirty to let fuel flow properly. Your fuel pump to may be getting weak, if the fuel filter is dirty the pump works harder and heats up and could be over heating the fuel pump relay too. The fuel pump relay i believe is in the glove box behind a panel that say relay, there should be (3) in there and the middle one is the fuel pump's. switch then around after you change the fuel filter and if you get a chance, check your fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Good luck and hope this help's if there is a Auto Zone around you, you can ask to use the fuel pressure gauge to see what fuel pressure you have and they'll have the step by step instructions on how to do it and takes about 5 min to do and will have the fuel filter and step by step to replace that too. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Car won't start

Your fuel pump is sticking and not pumping, this is common if you run the fuel down to less than 1/4 full, the fuel pump needs the gas to cool itself, below a 1/4 tank the pump is not getting cooled and after repeatably running low on fuel it overheats and fails. Running the car near 1/2 tank extends the pump life to many years more than running tank below a 1/4 full..

98 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4X2 suddenly dies .....

It sounds like you have some **** in the gas tank that is being drawn to the pickup blocking it.
Have seen this and because it seems so random, it can drive ya nuts.

You might carry a coffee can with you and pull the line from the fuel rail when this happens stick it in the can and just have someone turn the key on for a few seconds.
Beware though, it comes out with force.

Also possible is a failed fuel pressure regulator.
Those aren't expensive and . . . well, not very good either.
