2002 dodge neon automatic transmission, wont shift out of first gear, reverse works fine possible fixes for this issue, just had radiator replaced because of leaking trans fluid

    Tranny fluid level is good, speedometer works, a quick scan showed as a trans shift issue.

    Im afraid this is a dealership problem, you probably need a tranny overhaul STAY AWAY FROM MR TRANSMISSION, THEY ONLY OVERHAUL NOT DIAGNOSE

    Umm low fluid will burn out a tranny;s clutches fast this needs to go to the dealership and probably needs an overhaul DO NOT USE MR TRANSMISSION

I had the same thing with my neon.i replaced both input and output sensors and the ****** filter plus the dash consol.i also cleaned all my contacts on my plugs.none of that worked.i had a mechanic looked at it and he said i had a short in my harness,what a mess!one day i messed with the fuse pannel under the hood and decided to switch the relay on the atx with the horn and it ended up working.

If it happened right after they changed the radiator, did they add transmission fluid? If they did, check your owners manual, or call a dealership, to find out EXACTLY what kind of fluid you need. It may be on a sticker under your hood also. It probably needs ATF+3 or ATF+4. I don't give a rats *** what anyone else says, use them, and them ONLY. If the shop put in something that is supposed to be compatible, then you need to drain the fluid, refill it, run it a little, in rev and first, like 10 feet each direction. Drain the fluid AGAIN, and refill. My Stratus and others (probably same tranny as yours) needs ATF+3 or +4, they are REALLY picky about this. Anything else will mess it up. I have not used MOPAR brand, I have used off brands, like from Wally World, and they are fine. They just need to be EXACTLY the right fluid. Change the filter if it hasn't been done lately too.

I'm guessing tranny fluid level is good and smells good... does the speedometer work.. if not have to correct that first if it does work is the check engine light on... has it been scanned.....they have terrible time with the transmission control module and selinoid pack let me know

Purple pizza is 1000% correct, yes that is 1000%, when he speaks about fluid. the main problem with dodge transmissions is that they get the wrong fluid... that being said they require a certain fluid to stay good. you must use the chrysler fluid atf +3 or +4 which i believe superceeds +3, dont quote me on this, but i think +4 can be used in +3 applications. "check your dealer for 100% confirmation on this) If the tranny has been (fluid flushed) or (exchanged) it has most likely either been changed with the wrong fluid or has pushed all the grime in the tranny into the tranny fluid filter or both. any of the 3 can cause premature tranny failure in dodges. Never get the fluid changed without changing the fluid filter in the tranny at a service.

2002 dodge neon wont shift into reverse. all the gears work except for reverse it refuses to go in. A friend told me its the gear bushing that wont pop or something . Its not my car its a person im buying...
RUN it could be a bad tranny

Or have it checked by a pro tranny mechanic just in case it is only a sensor issue, i see a lot of neons with this problem.
