Our antitheft alarm on our 2001 mercury sable keeps going off on its own; I think there is something that sets those alarms off in our neighborhood because our's is not the only one going off every night. Any idea how I disconnect that alarm?
Get a new car! JK - my 2002 Sable does the same thing. It can be 5 times a day then not for a month, or 2-3 times a day for a week straight. It happens in different locations and different weather and different times of the day. To my knowledge has never done it in my garage at home.
I have not called a dealer. Has anybody ever found the real problem? Could it be in the remote itself? I tried leaving it unlocked at work, but yesterday it went off just as I was reaching toward the door handle.
IF I WERE A THIEF, THAT'S JUST WHAT I WOULD WAIT FOR AND THEN STEAL. PLEASE DON'T DISARM THE ALARM. IT SERVES IT'S PURPOSE. PUT YOUR PORCH LIGHT ON. IF THE CAR ALARM STAYS OFF, THEN CHANCES ARE THERE ARE THIEVES IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. LEAVE THE PORCH LIGHT ON IF IT WORKS TO KEEP AWAY THE THUGS. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA.

Thanks, but it's become a nuisance. We had electrical problems with the lights/alarms awhile back and neither were ever fixed entirely. We still have to manually turn on/off the lights and this alarm still goes off on its own. It is a nuisance as it goes off nearly every night. So thanks, but I'm really looking for the answer to how to disconnect it altogether.
Thanks, but it doesn't matter where the car is parked. In Atlanta, at a camp in the boonies, anywhere. It started way back when we had to have the car hauled in to replace the keys my son lost. If we used the new key on the trunk instead of using the keyless entry, the alarm would go off. So we just didn't do that anymore. It went from an occasional problem that seemed to be preventable to being a daily nuisance. I'd be fine with the thieves stealing it - I never want another Ford/Mercury.
