If the leak is from the pump unit or steering rack, it will need to be replaced,
If the leak is from a connection hose or coupling it can likely be readily repaired or replaced.

You'll have to clean it off & confirm where leak is coming from first.

The power steering fluid pump is leaking from my 1997 toyota camry (six cylinders). Should I replace the pump or keep refilling the fluid?

HI,
check and see if it is the hose or connection that is leaking. Sometimes a clamp will loosen or a hose crack. If the fluid is leaking from the sreering box /rack, then the best thing to do is replace it with a rebuilt / new unit.

If you just keep adding fluid to compensate for the loss, you might have a very unpleasant surprise one day, and find yourself with little if any, steering.

Really, it's a safety issue, and you should have the problem rectified A.S.A.P.

Good luck.

Power Steering fluid leaking 1997 Toyota Camry Leaks all the time Put more fluid in.

Bad lines or bad pump. if it's not a bad leak, try some stop leak additive and add fluid when needed. If it's bad, you need to replace what's leaking before your spend the repair cost in powersteering fluid. lines are relatively cheap and i would replace them before you run out of fluid and burn the pump up.

Have moanining sound when turning steering wheel right to left and vis versa. Added fluid the other day only to find large stain on ground where passenger sear would be after backing out of lot. 1997...

the moaning sound comes from air in the power steering fluid system (bubbles), the reason you have air is because of a leak, my suggestion is to jack the car up and you will probably find that the power steering rack has the leak and will require a replacement, not a n easy and clean job if you know what i mean

A dark red or burgundy color fluid most likely means you have a transmission fluid leak.

Warm you car up for 5-10 minutes and check your transmission fluid level while it's running and you will likely find it to be low.
