It blows out smoke from the exhaust pipe, any idea of what it is?
My Cavalier chugs as we go up hills, and I just got the spark plugs replaced today. It also is blowing out smoke from the exhaust pipe? Any idea why and what the problem is?

Check the firing order and the Timing. If the firing order is correct and the timing is correct at idle you may have a leaking head gasket or sticking valve.
- If you need clarification, ask it in the comment box above.
- Better answers use proper spelling and grammar.

White smoke in the exhaust once the car has warmed up may indicate a water leak into one of the cylinders. Pull the spark plugs and look for signs of water
unsure what you are saying with car bogs down , if you have smoke coming out of exhaust pipes when you first start your car but o.k when running then your valve stem seals are need of replacing , if your car continue to blow smoke as you drive then your rings are gone and you will need piston and rings attended too.
if you only have oil on outside of spark plug , then your rocket/tappet cover may need a tighten or new gasket .
hope this is of some help ,as i'm not sure what you were descibing ...
I do not know much about this vehicle but if it is diesel it sounds like you should clean and or replace air filter and or glow plugs or grid heater... if it is a gas vehicle changing the fuel filter and checking spark plug gaps and plugs and wires also the cap and rotor may have where witch will cause intermittent and weak spark so you could be getting to much fuel and running rich. also if it has a catalytic converter you may want to check if it is partially clogged and if it is have it replaced hope this helps good luck
There are a number of things that can cause this condition. First,
be sure the engine is properly tuned-up. Have the spark plug and plug wires been
replaced? Distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter and oxygen sensor? Then scan PCM
(computer) for fault codes. This will tell you if any engine control components
have failed. Also check for vacuum leaks or bad vacuum hoses.
Black smoke is usually unburned fuel. P0171 reads bank 1 system too lean. There isn't one answer. You need to dig further and inspect your cars fuel system, from the pump to the injectors. Because of the mileage you may want to start off with a compression test just to see where you stand with the motor. write back if you have any other questions.
sounds like you left something out. check to see if you plugged in all the sensors and plugs, then check for any vacuum lines that were not replaced or may have been broken
Hi, i think i answered you in another post. If not then the likely cause of your problem is turbo related the most common cause is one of the pipes going to the turbo has a small split in it causing this problem.
Nearly all the diesel turbo cars with your problem usually means a pipe needs replacing for the turbo this will need to be checked as it can be difficult to find the damaged pipe because they work under high pressure so actually seeing the damaged part can be difficult so check properly. If you are unsure then get a garage to check this as they will know the fault and will have a good idea exactly which pipe is damaged. Worst case of this will be that the turbo needs replacing but this is in the most severe of cases the turbo can blow if the pipe has been damaged for to long as it will be working under the wrong pressure. What happens is when you acelerate the turbo builds up pressure giving you more power when you need it but when the pipe becomes damaged this pressure is lossed and you then lose power and will cause black smoke coming out of exhaust.
Hope this is some help to you but if you have any problems or questions then give me a shout back and ill be glad to assist you further ok
