I add 24 OZ.of R134.the pressure on the gauge is a little pass 55 psi. the gauge is in the red the air is cold coming through the vent did i add to much Freon?

2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4.OL i add 24 OZ.of R134.the pressure on the gauge is a little pass 55 psi. the gauge is in the red the air is cold coming through the vent did i add to much? i believe the system have a leak in it the pressure was 20 psi. yesterday morning the day before it was 40 psi.

Is the 55 reading at idle --raise idle and if goes down your fine and yes the red is indication of to much freon hook up guage and observe the pressure if went down have leak and will need to have leak test done for repair

The gauge should be in the green at all times, also if the compressor is making noise you may want to add a/c oil, but you will have to evacuate some freon, if you are adding freon may have a leak or a partially clog system and the freon gets forced out under high pressure

there is a port and it takes r123a and it has a green port on it but if it's leaked out you mave have to have it vachumed out, if you charge it be sure to get R134a with oil so that you don't burn up the pump, when the thing leaks it loses oil.

Hi, You should have between 40 and 50 PSI on the low pressure side with engine running and A/C blowing on high to get cold air. 20PSI is undercharged. The system holds around 3 LBS. total.

Not likely, but Is Hot water flowing to heater coil in back? How hot is "very hot" Is it a refrigerant line? If a refrigirant line, Very Hot means it is hot gas from the compressor that "should be going to the condenser coil usually in front of the radiator. It's almost impossible for that Hot refrigerant gas to go to the cooling coil in the back unless you had some repairs done and they weren't certified. My guess is the radiator hot water is not being controlled properly, due to bad valve or control system components.

Testimonial: "Hi gbob59 - Thanks for your input. Ther are 4 lines running alng the passenger side of the car. With engine on , but NO A/C on, the smaller tube (closest to the car and closest to eh side of the car) is cold. Next to it is a larger tube which is also cold (neither is very very cold, they just feel like cold metal). Below them are two larger diameter tubes, both of which are warm. The tube closest to the interior of the car gets hotter but maybe ~ 110F or so, you can still touch it. With A/C on front only the situation does notchange. When the rear A/C is turned on the small diameter tube gets progressively warmer (but never too hot to handle) and by comparison the tube next to it seems cold. The other tubes, closer to the ground, just stay hot. There has been no A/C work done at all. I recently had front brakes and rotors put on and front struts replaced(at STS) and was going to do rear brakes myself. I also did change number three plug and coil pack last week but the A/C problem pre-dated that. I mention these in case you think something might have been dislodged in the process. What valve or control system for the radiator are you thinking about? FYI car has 66000 miles. Thanks."

Add freon to 2003 audi A8...any special tools needed? I have gauge and equipment but system will not take freon on the high side.


NEVER attempt to add freon on the HIGH side...This is very dangerous and can result in injury and damge to the system! The correct set of AC manifold gauges are needed to monitor pressures and determine the overall condition of the system...Refrigerants should be added by trained refrigeration technicians.

What kind of refrigerant does a 93 oldsmobile achieva need? Am I able to recharge it with R134a?


Why do people guess, this is what you need
93-92 Olds Achieva All Eng. ....... R-12 42.00 oz Mineral 8.00 oz
Vacumm the system to remove all moister and air (this is a must), I have converted many systems that were R12, with out change anything but the PORTS to allow R134 to charge the system and had no problems, always use high and low gauges, and a temp gauge inside the cars vents, this allows you to see what temp the air is coming out of the vents.
Add enough freon to bring the high side up to 150 psi, this will activate the cooling fan, check the inside temp. add a little at a time till the inside temp drops below 60 degrees, I have been able to get R134 down to 36 degrees, it depends on the systems condition. test drive and be cool.

How many pounds of r134 and how much oil ozs.


somewhere around 1.6 pounds (1lb.14ounces) of R134a if system is evacuated and 3 ounces of oil with new compressor.
keep pressure on the low side around 34-37psi & it should blow snow. Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.
  • Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
  • Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI –
  • Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI
Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.
DIY recharge kit:
With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold – STOP don’t overcharge the system.

Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.

Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI

Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI

Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI
Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.

With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience.

If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold – STOP don’t overcharge the system. The only proper way to remove refrigerant is with a AC recovery machine so if this is being done at home I can’t emphasize enough not to over charge the system.

My ac compressor on my 95 audi 90 turns on and off continually, and does not blow cold. does it just need a recharge, or could it be more?


How may miles is on the car?

Get an AC LOW SIDE psi garage and check on the LOW SIDE hose PSI.


MAKE SURE IT"S LOW SIDE.

High side can shoot up to 140 +++ PSI

BE CARE REAL CAREFUL



If it has 45+ PSI then do a charge with the auto part store R-134A kit.


If it's below 45 psi then you has a slow leak. Fill up will be last only hours or weeks.


Fix it right and be good to our environment.

The a/c on my 2006 honda pilot is not owrking and appears to have a low refrigerant charge. I want to recharge it and find the leak with die. what is the amount of 134a to be fully charged


Adding freon or topping off a cars A/C system is the most common task performed to restore performance and get cold air blowing again. However, adding refrigerant isn’t always the solution for car air conditioning problems. There can be many other things wrong besides a system being low on refrigerant. To diagnose problems, an A/C manifold gauge set is needed to read high and low side pressure readings. Avoid adding refrigerant with a simple charging kit like the ones sold at parts stores. Don’t add any stop leak, this can cause problems in the compressor, expansion valve or condenser.
Keep in mind that using an A/C gauge set and seeing BOTH high and low side readings can help in diagnosing the problem when you know what to look for. First, on a 134A system the high and low side service ports are different sizes. AC gauge sets have color coded hoses, the blue color coded hose has a connection that fits on the low side service port and the red hose has a connection that will only fit onto the high side. The yellow hose won’t hook up to anything if just checking the readings; it can be used to connect to a vacuum pump or attached to a refrigerant can or tank.

*Make sure the condenser fan comes on when the readings are being checked.

The only proper way to remove refrigerant is with a AC recovery machine so if this is being done at home I can’t emphasize enough not to over charge the system. And actually the best way to insure the proper charge is in a system, is to use an AC machine to recover the R143a and then evacuate and recharge the system with the correct amount. Most cars have the specified amount on a decal under the hood.

Ac not cold replaced compressor


first the a/c system need to be put into a vacuum before you add r134. how much r134 does you system need? too much or too little will both get you warm air. does the compressor come on? air in the system will get you warm air too.

When you start putting the freon in the compressor should kick on and then start pulling it in. Yes it will cycle, as long as all the lights aren't flashing on the temp control.
