Do you mean the little poorly engineered sensor that tells the trans what gear your car is in that failed on our car twice before we dumped it and brought a New Camry ;-), yea that is located on top the Transmission housing. It's 3 bolts to remove, check the Suzuki forum for the write up of how to replace it. When it fails the car will go into limp mode, hopefully not on the highway, but its easily enough to replace in your driveway with the E brake engaged and a few common wrenches. it may need to be adjusted, but even that has a limited range, the only way to avoid its premature failure is to make sure every single time the car must be at a complete stop and when you feel the car engage the next gear ie Drive to Reverse, only then you can apply the accelerator. Anything too soon and you'll strip that sensor every time.
a used engine may be the way to go. call junk yard or look on ebay for one. u can also just get a used engine head instead of redoing yours it would be a lot cheeper. I think 1500 is to much just for parts for a 2005 car
my guess the PRNLD is bad on the side of the A/T box>
you could look, at it and decide that in 1second
or read the FSM
or read alldata.com
my guess, is you didnt do any of that?
replace the PRNDL. switch. you unplug the elect.cable
and then unscrew it from tranny and its out.
1st google hit, on topic.

Transmission Range Sensor - Suzuki Forenza 2006 All You Need To Know Symptoms: One day, you get in your car, put it into reverse ... and it sort of SLAMS into reverse. You may also notice your service engine light is on. Then, when you put it into drive, it sort of SLAMS into drive. And then, it struggles to get going ... and probably will not go into the higher gear ensuring you obey the speed limit on a 55 MPH highway (or blow your engine if you try to push it). Codes: If you have an auto shop hook you up to their machine to read the codes - first, it will cost you about $100 - second, the codes will most likely be P0700 and/or P0705. Problem: You need to replace your Transmission Range Sensor (part #: 37720-86Z01) Transmission Range Sensor for a 2006 Suzuki Forenza Option #1: Take it to a Suzuki dealership and let them replace. All said and done, you should be looking at a price tag around $300. Option #2: Buy the part and fix it yourself. • You will NOT find this part anywhere online or in stores. You can ONLY purchase it at a Suzuki Dealership. Cost is just under $50. (this is true as of 24 Dec 2009) • You can replace this part if you want. But if you break something every time you pick up a tool ... pay the $300 or find a friend who can help. • INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REPACE ON PAGE 2 Instructions to Replace the Transmission Range Sensor on a 2006 Suzuki Forenza 1. Locate the TRS. Open your hood, and look down to the right. See pictures below. That stupid black hose is going to irritate you. I'm not a mechanic. I didn't feel safe taking it off. Looks like it's connected the radiator 2. Loosen the bolt listed as bolt #1 below. You will need a 12mm wrench. I couldn't get a ratchet in there. 3. Loosen bolts listed as #2 and #3. You will need a 10mm wrench for these. 4. Now remove the metal piece attached with bolt #1, and then, remove the TRS. This is a frustration point. Mine did not simply slide right off. You'll have to work them a bit. 5. Disconnect wiring cable. You can do this first or last ... whichever you think is easier. Wiring cable location is noted below. I broke some of the plastic housing here. But, it did not affect the functionality. You're just going to have to figure this one out. This piece will also NOT slide right off. 6. In order to get the TRS back on, the grooves in the center hole (where bolt #1 is) need to match up with the old TRS. The inside of that circle rotates. 7. Final Step - put it all back on. Good luck! I hope this has been helpful for you. HERE IT IS ...Below the hose Bolt #1 ... 12mm Bolt #2 ... 10mm Bolt #3 ... 10mm Wiring Location
I've talked to three different Suzuki Dealerships since mine just went out as well, and they have all told me that they have to reprogram the computer or it wouldn't be able to shift into the correct gear.
