Hi, I just had the same problem with my 2012 Santa fe, loud banging noise (like someone rear ended me), it happened when start going from a stop, when coming to a complete stop, or when turning while in low gears, was the viscous coupler, lucky me the neighborhood dealer where i bought the car from replaced the part at no cost to me, problem solved, now car driving really nice (knock on wood), maybe my imagination, but even seems like the car is shifting more smoothly than before. The original part is around $1100, but you can find after market parts for around $400-$500, its really not too complicated to replace it (if you have a way to lift the car...), there are some really good videos on youtube that take you step by step on how to do it, only a few tools needed.
I had a rear wheel drive car many, many years ago. I had an issue with a clunking sound. Took it to a mechanic. They found nothing wrong. Also, there was no sound when they tested it. About a month and a half later, I discovered a glass coke bottle in the boot compartment where the jack was supposed to go The jack was lost on a drunken camping weekend with friends. The noise started after said weekend

Hello, I have seen many differentials go bad on this model but you saying that the noise went away after you sprayed it with water doesn't make sense. If you want to check the wheel bearings, jack up the car and check the movement of your wheels by grabbing the top of the tire with one hand and the bottom of the tire with other and see if there is too much movement. If there is too much movement, then you need to replace the wheel bearings. (big job)
You also need to check the brake calipers to see if they are sticking. You can take a large screw driver and pry back the pads. They should move back with a little effort. If not, maybe the calipers are sticking.
I hope this helps.

Sure sounds like a throw out bearing having too much room. Might need adjustment.
