There is a brake light switch that is stuck and you need a new one it is located under dash and is activated from the brake pedal. Unplug connector and remove 2 bolts .can get at any parts supply.

Testimonial: "Thank you very much! Will replace that."

If it's the light on the dashboard that lights up red saying BRAKES(I) (P) It can be several things. First double check and make sure your embrake is disengaged. Set an release it several times to work the mechanisms so it's breaks loose any rust or build up that might prevent it from disengaging fully. Next check the fluid level in your reservoir under the hood. A low fluid level will cause the light to come on and stay on until the proper fluid level is reached. If that doesn't help it might be something more serious an I'd recommend taking it to a licensed and certified mechanic for further diagnostic. Brakes are the most important and most serious components on a vehicle and need to be taken care of ASAP.

Testimonial: "Great advice. Thank you very much! Will try all of those."

SOURCE: volvo v40 stalling when idling

If the car shakes and stalls at lights stop signs etc. I would check the egr ( exhaust recirculator valve) first this valve should open when in driving mode and close immediately when engine comes back to idle. to check this find the valve on the intake manifold ( looks like a mushroom) remove vaccuum line and plug hose drive the car and see if it fixes the problem. If it does get one from local parts store. Most brands such as standard are universal and come with baffles that must be installed. do not leave the valve disconnected the engine will "ping" when driving forcing you to buy higher octane gas. It is also illegal to remove this unit for emission reasons.

Abs light comes on when driving above 60 mph but brakes work fine in my volvo v40

Brakes always work but ABS may be not functioning.
This is probably to be repaired by experienced repair shop.
Brakes are too serious to make experiments by yourself.

2000 volvo v40 wont start

Turn on the headlights try to start if the lights go off or go very dull the battery most likely is flat

If the lights stay bright, make sure the transmission is in neutral and the park brake is on.
Hold the key in the start position and let someone tab the starter motor with a hammer, often the tarter engaged, The problem in this case point to worn brushes.

Good luck
