yes you have to drop the tank. you will also need a fuel line tool to unhook the fuel lines. before you drop the tank see if tou can reach and wiggle the electrical connection on the top of the tank. these pumps have a pigtail issue. please rate

If the area under the carpet doesn't have an access panel, you can use a dremel moto tool with the small grinding wheel attachment to cut one out. I believe the cut goes inside the middle humps. (You can see humps running down the trunk area.) Do a web search for the exact location. After you do this you will have to put in a metal plate to cover it. What i do is i cut out 3 sides and not the 4th, then i bend it up and over, then bend it back.

Use lots of wd40 on tank strap bolts. If they bigin to bind tighten them up and losen again to get rust out of threads. If you remove the straps, why not remove the fill neck and lower tank? Much easier to work that way!!!

You have to drive your car up on metal ramps. Chock your wheel's, have your pressure relived, remove your negative battery terminal, have your fuel pumped out using drill powered pump or drive your vehicle to the reserve point. Loose your tank straps, and lower the tank. Unplug your electrical connectors and pull your tank out under vehicle so you can remove locking flange on top of the tank to remove fuel pump and sending unit out.Replace fuel level sending unit and reinstall it back.
