My mechanic in our town did a quick computer check. Car computer indicated a low level of antifreeze, he topped it up, cleared all messages off the car computer and said to watch the the heat guage for any further irregularities. I'll keep an eye on it, love the car, great mileage fun to drive.
SOURCE: Hello to eveyone, My 2001 Vw jetta can't cool
Yes it could be a bad fan relay also it could be a bad thermostat.
SOURCE: My air conditioner blows cool air on 75 degree
the air mix door may be stuck or broke does it blow cold air on hot days after the freon is replaced and for how long it may be leaking back out ?? it may be an door acutator as well or linkage
SOURCE: After a few minutes of driving the engine begins
There could be 3 possible problems here.
If the dashboard is saying the engine is overheating at 90 degrees and there is still cold air coming through then the thermostat could be faulty. I would suggest that you remove the thermostat and place it in a beaker of boiling water. If the top begins to open as the temperature rises, then it is fine. If not, then the thermostat will need to be replaced.
If the thermostat is fine, I would then suggest that you check your coolant levels, the coolant pressure or make sure there isn't a crack in the radiator. If there isn't enough coolant in the system then it won't perform to its highest standards. If the coolant pressure is too low, then it won't be able to cool high temperatures, although 90 degrees isn't very high for the engine to overheat. If your radiator has a crack in it then it will be leaking coolant which would explain a low coolant level and loss of pressure.
A third problem could be air getting into the heating system which will cause air to get trapped in the radiator. This would stop the normal flow of coolant. So now I would suggest checking the cylinder head gasket and do a pressure test to see if there is any air getting into the system.

when stationary their is no air flow through the radiator so temperature will rise and the cooling fan comes on ,now as for it not going off then this could be a sensor ,relay or the computer as the sensor tells the temperature to the computer which turns the fan on and off ,now on these cars the fan will stay on for up to 5 mins after turning the engine off so if after this time it hasnt gone off then consult the dealer as you have bought a asian market software vehicle so it will not respond to a code reader to locate any faults just like the europeon version but the american version can be read with a code reader .
