Replace the catalytic converter,it is defective and allowing exhaust gases to pass through it untreated.Run the oxygen sensor readings and you should see the rear sensor readings close to the front sensor readings which has then set the p0420.

SOURCE: coil replacement How?

I guess as you may know , it has indidvidual coil packs for each cylinder. The ones on the driverside, 4,5, and 6 are easy to change. just unscrew the bolt holding the coil pack down on the plug and pull it off and unplug the coil pack from the locking plug by squeezing near the back where the wire goes in the plug. The ones on the passenger side require removing the intake manifold to get to them. This is not as hard as it may seem but the wires and a bracket connected in the back of the manifold do need to be disconnected in order to free the manifold for access to the coil packs. Wasnt such a hard job but a bit of a challenge.

SOURCE: 2004 Lincoln navigator misfire on cylinder 8 error code p318

Replace the coil pack once more. I went through 2 new ones on my f150 on one cylinder. One worked, the other didn't (both new off the shelf). Condensation build up in the boot caused mine to misfire. Anytime you replace a coil pack, squirt a little silicone grease inside. This will prevent condensation from hitting your plug. Fords are notorius for this problem, especially if you live in a humid area. Also, make sure and clear the codes after you make the repair.

I have a 2002 Lincoln LS that up to 3000 rpm seems to run fine. at 3000, it starts to shudder and miss. any ideas/

If one of the engine components is acting up, you should get a check engine light and have codes for the components. If the light is not coming on, it could be a suspension or mechanical problem.
Low fuel pressure could also do it.

Po304 po307, i think my engine coils keep going out i also have a po420 code

You may have 1 bad coil not both #3 & & #7

You also have a bad exhaust converter from 10
years of on & off misfires

The PO420 is (Bank 1) Passenger side

Fix the misfires

Replace both Converters

Replace all 4 O2 Sensors

Converters should have lasted a few more years

A cop ignition coil is $59.00 & takes about 15 min to put in

No reason to pay someone $500.00

My 2001 lincoln ls is sputtering at 40-50 mph, engine light comes on for couple hours

this sounds like an engine misfire, the check engine light is telling you it is misfiring. next time the light is on you should go to an auto parts store as most of them will pull the code for you at no charge. I own a 2002 LS and I have replaced 4 coils in less than one year to correct this same problem.

2003 Lincoln LS check engine light

I had the same problem with a 2004 LS. I took it to the dealer and turned out that 6 ignition coils were out and was factory defect. Ford extended the warranty for the ignition coil. All work and parts "no charge" this service was done about a month ago
