Push the button on the headlight switch.......Pull switch knob out to on position, then reach around under dash and there is a silver spring loaded button you push up or squeeze and pull the stem right out of the switch !
There is a small plastic rod coming out of the instrument cluster near the clock the same as the one for resetting/toggling the trip computer. Turn and hold it clockwise or counterclockwise, that will adjust the time.
You are referring to the "blend door actuator". It is normally found outside the main duct/housing under the passenger side dash, almost to the firewall. It is electronic and will have a harness connection towards the bottom and what looks like the end of a metal rod at the top. It rotates this rod according to the temperature knob setting, which positions the blend door. With the car running, move the temperature knob and watch the rod for movement. It only moves from say 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock, it has notches on the rod and tick marks at 10, 12, and 2 o'clock on the case.
If it doesn't move it's probably bad but, before you lay out the big bucks for a new one, try this:
It sounds like vacuum is not getting to the vent, heat and A/C controls. Find the vacuum can. It may be under the hood on one of the inner fenders. The "one-way" check valve is usually located in the line and close to the can, make sure it works properly. The valve could be the very thing that's causing the problem. Trace the lines back to the vacuum block at the intake manifold or fire-wall, and also back to where the line goes thru the fire-wall. Check the can for leaks or obvious holes. They used to be just a plain metal can, but it could be a plastic ball. Check the lines as you go, for breaks and rub-thru's. Move the controls thru all settings and listen for vent door movement. Worst case is a bad vacuum motor or air flow position selector switch, and/or a faulty Blend Door Actuator. If you have been driving around with the Temperature knob or control set at the same spot for months, move it from fully cold to fully hot several times and wait for the air temperature to change each time. This will help reset the blend door and vacuum control system. Hope this helps... Let me know what you find.
should just push in as the switch has clip type things around the outer circumference so if its broke then my old favourite two pack araldite epoxy adhesive will perform wonders on this sort of job
GET A GOOD FUSE TESTER, TEST EACH FUSE. THERE ARE 2 FUSEBOXES. ONE UNDER THE HOOD & ONE IN THE DASH. ALL FUSES CAN BE TESTED WHILE STILL IN PLACE. THERE ARE TEST POINTS FACING OUT. TURN ON IGNITION SWITCH FOR THIS TEST. POWER ON 1 SIDE, BAD FUSE POWER ON BOTH SIDES, GOOD FUSE. POWER ON NEITHER SIDE, SPARE FUSE.
IF ALL FUSES RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM TEST OK, CHECK OR REPLACE THE TURN/SIGNAL/HAZARD FLASHER, { LOCATED UNDER DASH, NEAR STEERING COLUMN, PROBABLY SQUARE & BLACK. IF THAT'S OK, IT WILL HAVE TO BE THE TURN SIGNAL/ HAZARD SWITCH. ALSO CALLED COMBINATION SWITCH. REMOVE THE PLASTIC HOUSING AROUND THE STEERING COLUMN UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. IT LOOKS LIKE THE AIRBAG & A LOT OF SPECIALIZED TOOLS WILL BE NEEDED. YOU MAY HAVE TO EMPLOY A RELIABLE SHOP IF THE COMBINATION SWITCH IS THE PROBLEM
If you have the standard pull out push in switch, reach underneath the dash and push in on the small button on the switch (look at the new one and you will see it...looks like a small rivet head with a spring under it) While holding the button in, pull the knob and shaft out, then just remove the nut around the switch extension and remove/unplug the switch. Once the new one is in, just push the knob back into the switch and it will lock in.
check fuse block for shorts, melting discoloring,on back side of fuse panel around starter relay. loose connection causes fuse block to over heat will need to be replaced.hope this helps.
probllem can be one of two things either the switch on the dash control is bad and will not let it change or the blend motor is bad under the dash there are two or three of the these under there one moves from hot to cold one moves it around from dash to feet to vents best way to find out is to get someone to turn the knobs while you listen and look for them to move
The dash around the insturment cluster has to be pulled back far enough to remove the 2 screws that mount the switch. The problem with this is the knob can not be removed until a button on top of the switch is depressed. Once the screws are out there is enough room to get at the button and remove the knob. When installing the new switch leave the knob off, this allows more room for the installation of the 2 screws. After installing the dash panel then install the knob assembly. Word of caution: inspect the wires behind the switch for integrity as when the switch burns out it may result in some melted insulation just behind the connector. Good luck.
